Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Some of us ride all kinds of bikes, road, mountain, track...

So yes, there is some overlap.

I commute on a cyclocross bike which is mostly set up as a road bike but somewhat geared for touring, partly because I weigh over 200 pounds. I also have two fixed gear bikes which I use for my commute, which is basically an hour long road ride. Both fixed gear bikes are built from very old steel frames. Also, I own a car, but drive it very little since I ride my bikes almost everywhere. And I do all of my own wrenching as well.

Mine has been sitting in my garage unused for 4 or 5 months. Does that count?

Maybe the op wants to know if anyone uses a fixed gear bike as a road bike rather than as a fashion accessory to one's urban hipster lifestyle.

I commute and train on a 2006 Langster. Its geometry is very close to my road race bike.

The wisdom is fixed gear will make you lazy, and roadies are all hard-working. Don't mentioned that stuff here! (sarcasm smiley)

and oh yeah: I use my fixed (conversion) for commuting & errand purposes. With hills/mountains in any direction - they're really unavoidable out here in Los Angeles. Running 86 or so gear inches.
