Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Woosh....a BF dream come true

Saw this in my inbox this morning and all I could think of was how amazed I was there wasn't already a thread about this. The e-mail had the caption of "Hear the whoosh"

I'm sure you'll pick up a set in a year or two off E-Bay for a song. A mere half of what they are listing at now....

Is that for the rear only? It doesn't say 'SET' that I could see, but I could have been blinded by the price. For that price the negative drag should lift it off the road, but then you'd need something else to provide forward motion.

Yeah...last time I checked people really haven't run disks in the front since the 80's. If you were hoping that the price was for the disk + a Zipp 303ish front....nope. You'll have to pay extra for that add-on .

You're paying for a service you understand.....

I wonder... with negative drag, does the Powertap report negative numbers while coasting?

I think you're being sarcastic, but negative wheel drag <> negative total bike & rider drag.

I liked it way better when I thought the ZIPP model number accurately represented the price of purchase.

It's funny how they boast how amazing their dimpled carbon wheels are, and then they cover up the dimples with those huge Zipp stickers.

Im not going to say that it was a dumb investment because That wheel looks great and is extremely functional...but 3500...holy crap...

If i had the money I would pick one up, maybe, but regardless its still pretty sweet. Any pics of it on ur bike?

I didn't think anyone could beat the Mavic iO at $3000, but they did. So if you paired the iO on the front with the Zipp on the back, that's a $6500 wheelset!!!!

Anybody been pricing LEWs or Lightweights lately?

LEWs:

Satndard deep carbon tubulars: $5,995 per pair.

Hight zoot carbon disk rear wheel: $7,495 each. Yes, that's for ONE wheel.

https://lewracing.everestondemand.com/VALUE/index.asp

Lightweights: $5-6,000 per set. Then you get to add the PT...

^ haven't been to a TT lately?

It's amazing the fancy stuff people show up with.

2 years ago, I showed up at the State TT championship, with a nice TT bike, HED disc/trispoke combo, TT helmet, and thought at least I'd have a bit of an advantage over other Cat 5's. Wrong. My equipment was matched or exceeded by the majority of folks.
