Damn BikeJournal- Recommend another site
So now BikeJournal is set up that "basic" (free) members can only enter 6 columns of information. You have to pay to be a "premier" ($20) member to be able to enter more information. The free journal has become almost useless. It's a shame.
$20 may not sound like much and I've been a member since 2005, so I should probably contribute something. But I'm a cheap *******. That's just how I am. I'm trying to spend less than $50/month on cycling this year, and I can think of better ways to spend that $20.
I'm either going to change sites or go to an Excel spreadsheet. Spreadsheets are fine, but I do like the competitive aspect of online journals. Like I said, I've been loyal to BikeJournal since 2005 and always recommended it to others. I haven't kept up on the other journals out there. So what do you guys think? What's the best free journal these days?

wow 6 columns of information is useless?
$20 a year is less then $2 a month. I can understand being frustrated at the change, but that is damn cheap for good site.

The problem is that 3 of the columns are ride date, ride type, and bike, which I cannot change. That pretty much just leaves distance, average speed, and time. I like to keep more info than that.

I'm trying to check out www.mycyclinglog.com, but it's taking them forever to send me a confirmation e-mail.
I've also tried activebody.org for running. It's alright for running, but the cycling option doesn't offer a whole lot of statistical categories.
What other sites are out there?

Damn cheap people. If you enjoy the site so much pay the $20 for the extra features there nice. You could also get group to join up and it's even cheaper. https://www.bikejournal.com/store_item.asp?item=18

I use and like MyCyclingLog.com and there is a new site called BikeWire out that looks promising. It's just starting out so there are not a lot of members right now.

It's a measly $20 bucks. For the amount of use you can get out of it, it's well worth the amount. Hosting a website takes money, let alone the time Slantz puts into the site. I'll gladly shell out $20 for this service.

Guess I'm glad I basically stopped using that site. I was just looking for a reason to totally stop using it and now I've got one.

I also use mycyclinglog.com. There isn't that much to customize as far as fields are concerned but, when tagged properly, your rides can be sorted neatly on the reports screen. I am a huge fan of the calendar function (that first appeared, to my knowledge, on mycyclinglog) and I use that to maintain motivation by trying to string as many active days together as possible. Granted, my whole calendar might be blue for the first three or four months but it beats the hell out of plain white.
EDIT: There's also www.buckeyeoutdoors.com I have used that site in the past and is good for strenght training and multi-sport athletes. I had a few glitches early on but I think they smoothed out the interface over the last year or so.

It wasn't the $20 for me so much as it was calling a reduction in basic service an enhancement. He has the right to do that, and part of the reason might be to drive away non-premier members. No biggie.
I was riding every day and it was getting to be kind of a chore anyway, so bag it.

Yeah, My friend and I built BikeWire, I just posted about 2 weeks ago that the site is up, we don't limit the data fields they are all available and theres charts and graphs. The site also has networking, photos, blogs, etc. etc. Classifieds, Race Registration, and Mapping are on the way, in that order. We also just got some test files from some helpful BF members to get computer upload set up, hopefully soon.

I went to BikeWire too. I paid my money to BikeJournal and just didn't use any of the premier options. I don't use the forum as it's heavily censored, so I just used the journal. It's useless now, which is of course the point. He tired of fooling with BJ, so he's decided to cut memebership and/or make more money. It's a win/win for him.
What really cheeses me off is that I go back and look at journals from past years, years I paid my money for, and the data is gone. So I have to pay more money to be able to see the data that I've already paid money for?
Seems like a bad business choice on my part.
BikeWire works great. Great timing too. You guys should get lots of migrating riff raff from BJ.

I was already a paying member of BJ and don't care either way. $20 isn't much money.
Heck, I donated $25 for this site.
However, a new site could be a good thing. Created a profile to play around. Looks cool so far.

Bikejournal works fine for me. I paid $20 to help support them. I don't really use many of the features. Just long my miles and out.

Suggestions for Change:
1. It would be nice to be able to customize the "Enter Race/Ride Log" section. There are a couple options I don't use (time of day, for example) and it would make data entry faster if I could delete those fields.
2. Also in the "Enter Race/Ride Log" section, I think it would be a little faster to change "Duration" from a drop-down menu to an open field. It's faster to type 59 than to scroll all the way down to 59 in the drop-down menu.
3. I like the calendar in the "My Log" section, but it would be nice to see ride distance listed on the calendar instead of ride time. That makes it easier to take a quick look at how things have been going lately.
Things I like:
1. I like the yellow/polka dot/green jersey idea for the leader boards. Pretty cool idea.
2. The graphs and charts are very nice.
3. Overall the site is a lot more appealing to the eye than most of the other options I've seen.

Thanks, we've been waiting for the BikeJournal fallout to happen. It's kind of funny we got the site mostly done (at its current state) by the end of january and then I got that Bike Journal email early in February, it was like perfect timing for us haha.
If you have any suggestions or advice just post in the BikeWire thread i posted above or shoot us an email on the feedback page of the site.

I quit using BJ simply because I found it useless. I haven't logged my miles in over 2 years and am not planning on starting again. If you find his site useful then suck it up and pay him the $20. That guy has put in more volunteer time on that site than you could possibly imagine.
