Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

sun glasses

I am looking for a new pair of glasses and was wondering if anybody could recommend some that are suitable for small faces. A lot of glasses just don't work for me since they are too large.
I have been looking at the tifosi gavias online, does anybody have any experience with Tifosi? They seem pretty nice for the price. If you would recommend them, would you recommend the multi lens set or one that has the transitioning lenses?

Thanks,
JR

I have a pair of the Tifosi Q3s that have interchangeable lenses and I love them. I would recommend interchangable lenses mainly because I have had no trouble with them. They are aslo very easy to change out. The Q3s came with 4 sets of lenses which are each perfect for different lenses. Their are clear lenses, amber lenses, yellow lenses, and normal "bluish" sunglasses lenses. I wear mine with the normal lenses even when I am not riding, so they look like normal sunglasses. Hope this helps.

I pickup up a pair of Tifosi Gavias in blue (matchs team kit) after i lost my Serfas glasses. I like them a lot. No issues. Total of 4 sets of lenses, like Godogs said. Nice hard case too.

I actually like Performance 'Orion' glasses. Fairly narrow, interchangeable lenses - can be gotten on sale for $25-30. I now have three pairs.

For me the issue with glasses is how they fit/ride on my nose. After many years of mistakes, I'm getting so I can tell fairly close by seeing a picture.

The rumor mill told me the other day that lightly colored lenses (eg orange, yellow, etc) actually help to sort of 'light up' the road from your viewpoint in the morning or early evening. Any truth to this? I think it makes sense if yellow things are easier to see than darker things...

some of the performance glasses do look decent. I have a local shop that is supposed to carry the Tifosi glasses, so I am going to take the trip and see how they fit. I don't have a performance around, so I will probably stick with brands I can try on locally for now (I hate dealing with returns / exchanges by mail). Sounds like the switchable lenses are the way to go (as opposed to the variable tint lenses).

Thanks for the info.

I have a crappy pair of polarized yellow-lensed glasses that I use. They really brighten up colors and contrast. Very helpful when riding, and I also use them when driving on the highway. When you take them off all the colors look less vibrant and dull, it's sort of depressing.

Yes, I have a pair of tifosi's with an orange lense and all the textures of the road seem to pop out more. Very nice glasses for the price.

I've always used Oakley, but Bolle comes highly recommended from my optometrist as well.

I managed to get a good pair of Smith Theory's at a very reasonable price. They are freakin' great.

I had a cheap pair of DHB glasses (£25 circa 2006) with interchangeable lenses. Then the glasses frame snapped and I've been put off with interchangeables since then.

From all the positive posts, I assume the more expensive ones have a more suitable (stronger) frame construction?

Another huge fan of Tifosi's here. I have the Envy's. They work pretty well for small faces. I got the transition lense first with a grey/carbon color frame and loved them. Later I picked up an all black frame with three lenses (clear, dark, and red). Since they are the same lense and frame size, I basically have 4 lenses and two frames with which to interchange. I got both pair for under $100 and have had no problems with any of them.

me in a newer set of Oakley shades. These are the ones I ride in now... for what it's worth.
they fit my face very well, but from decades of past experience with sunglasses, especially wrap-arounds, might I suggest you try them on at a local shop and see what fits the shape of your face the best. Glasses can look great on one person and lousy on the next. It's really impossible to judge without fitting each style you think you may like, and looking in a mirror to see.

Way too many people riding the Tifosi bandwagon. Good glasses and can be nice but just don't buy them for the name.

I currently wear Optic Nerves on my bicycle.

I have a pair of Oakleys and a pair of Performance with interchangeable lenses I picked up primarily for the clear and amber lens options. The Performance were on clearance for about $12. I now wear only the Performance on the bike; the Oakleys are for off-bike use.

No people like Tifosi for the price and they are the best value in sunglasses, if it was for name recognition everyone would be in Oakleys.

+1 on the Oakleys for me. I have the Radar Path Polarized and it is an awesome pair of optics. For small faces, an Oakley Half Jacket maybe your ticket. Both the Radar and Half Jackets (along with M-Frames) all have interchangeable lenses.

I had to read that 3 times before I got what you were saying.

No people like Tifosi for the price and they are the best value in sunglasses, if it was for name recognition everyone would be in Oakleys. ------Makes no sense

I dunno, I was just speaking from my own experience.
