205 lbs on new Krysium SL Premium Wheels?
I have an opportunity to purchase a set of new Krysium SL Premium wheels at a low price.
At present, I ride a 2007 Specialized Roubaix CF bike with Easton Circuit wheels.
I am not a lightweight; I weigh about 200 lbs. I am riding 100-150 miles per week at the "A" club level.
I have had absolutely no problems with the Easton wheels but the Krysiums are very tempting.
However, I am under the impression that my weight could be a problem with the Krysiums.
Does anyone have any experience with Krysium SL Premiums that could help me in my decision?
Thanks, Ted

Hmmm, Mavic's website doesn't list any rider weight limit and they are made, in part, of titanium. I would ask but not be too concerned about whether the wheels will support your weight.

I am 6'7" 265lbs and ride 2006 Ksyrium SSC SL3s on both of my road bikes. No problems with them and my weight. Not sure how the wheels you are looking at compare though. I also have Ksyrium Equippes and Ksyrium Elites as backup wheels. And have never had an issue with my weight on those either.

You will not have a problem with the SL wheels at your present weight.

<thread hijack> How do you like your Circuits, higgit? I've been looking at Easton's EA70 wheels, and the rumor is that they're a new version of the Circuits. <thread hijack>

You'll be more than fine on those wheels at that weight.

These are a wheel of choice for cyclocross racing... meaning they can take far more of a beating than you are going to dish out on the road at 210

I have seen some big guys on Ksyrium lightweight / climbing wheels and have not heard of any problems. I weigh 195 and have had Ksyrium Elites for over a year and have never put a wrench on them.

I don't fear much on my Elites at 250 lbs but I avoid the lighter models with CF hubs.

I'm about 250lbs right now and have a new Specilized Tarmac Expert with Ksyrium SL's....Have not had any issues at all with them. I'm riding about 45-50 miles once a week for now, but will be increasing soon!
They have been rock solid - but I only have about 500 miles on them. No complaints so far. You will most certainly be fine.

If its such a hot deal, well, then you got two really nice wheelsets and there is nothing wrong with that. I just wouldn't think of it as upgrading much if anything.
FWIW, I go 225-235 and roll on a set of Elites and a set of Cosmic Elites and love them both.

I'm not aware of Ksyriums having a weight. That's part of their appeal.
I used to own the ES rode it to the local climbing gym. The total weight with a 40 pounds of gear in the backpack placed me around 215-220. No issues other than having to bump up the psi.
Some of the larger riders I know claim they can feel a difference (in flex) with Ti skewers. I'm not so convinced on this one.

I have a friend 270, a friend 205 (rides hard, very strong) and 2 double century rider friends that weigh about 210. All have had problems with the Mavic SL's. All had cracks around the nipples and two guys have had broken spokes about a month or two before the wheels cracked.
All have ditched the wheels. One went with VeloMax, the other upgraded to the red spoke version cause the shop said they were lighter, faster and stronger. First ride, he broke a spoke, but it was a tough climb.
Another female friend has the SL's. 135lb and 5'10. She's had them go out of true after a year. No further problems though.
I know many will argue but seems to depend on weight and how hard and what kind of distance you put on the wheels. Guys I know ride about 5-6,000 a year.

Thanks for all the input.
I think I'll stay with my Eastons.
"If it ain't broke, don't fix it".
My son, who races, got them with his Scott Addict and offered them to me for $600. His team is sponsored by Shimano and they run on Dura-Ace wheels.
The Krysiums will be on e-bay next week.

I have 12000 miles on a pair of Mavic SLs, I weigh close to 200 pounds and have raced on them, including the Rouge-Roubaix race, 100 miles with nearly 30 miles of dirt. I have not had any problems with the wheels and have had them trued 3 times, they were barely out as well.
I highly recommend Mavics!!!!!!!!
