outboard bottom bracket on older road frame.
I'm wondering I'm building up an 99 gt edge steel road frame... and I was wondering about the possibility of using the new kind of hollowtech bottom brackets that shimano makes for their road components?? any one have any ideas?

Some times with frames that were created before the creation of outboard bearings the edges of the bottom brackets aren't even. Which then causes the cups to be angled and that unevenly loads the bearings causing more resistance in your bottom bracket. But all you have to do is take it to your bike shop and let them reface it.

yes, it works. I have a tiagra compact with outboard on my 1980~ miyata.
spec for BB hasn't changed often, and all you need is the proper size.
I couldn't be happier with how well the setup works.

Indeed. But alas, we are blessed with "progress". Fortunately, I run the last of the Campy square taper and adore it.
