Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

How Are Skiers So Much Like Cyclists?

They like to wear colourful duds, are always on the lookout for new hills, and no matter how many skiers congregate in a given spot, no two have the same pair of skiis.

We use special shoes to attach ourselves to the equipment and we're (most of us) seasonal.

oh yeah, don't forget the OCPs

Both groups believe that wearing the most brightly colored, logo-ridden, tightest possible clothing makes them look cool.

"are always on the lookout for new hills"

Except they only want to go downhill without having to work too hard.

In Wisconsin, the cyclists are usually X-Cty skiiers (not downhill skiiers). Huge difference.

You are all wrong.

Both spend way too much money on a hobby no one but other skiers/cyclists care about.

When was the last time you've been to a ski resort? 1970s? And I'm referring to alpine skiing.... perhaps you're right if you are referring to XC skiers.

Sorry, I ski a lot more than I bike and have been for a lot longer so I couldn't let this one pass

+1.

And, we both go way faster than was ever intended by nature/God/evolution (take your pick) while using minimal machinery (and protection) to do it.

Just so you know, in keeping with his Road Naziness, Pcad is also a Downhill Nazi.

That's a Roffe jacket. It's only 20 years old. That picture is about 11 years old. Still have the jacket.

Noob? I was a noob in skiing in 1966. I'd be shocked if I didn't have more vertical feet skiing than 95% of the skiers on this forum.

<sarcasm>Does that mean you are HTFU enough to go skiing even if it's snowing out and the temps are near freezing!?</sarcasm>
