Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

New Pegoretti - Should I ask for a refund or keep it?

Well, I finally got pictures of my new custom Pegoretti Marcelo and to say I was surprised would be an understatement! The paint job looks great but it is so very, well, ordinary. To be fair, I wasn't very specific when the order was placed last April; I simply specified the base color and that I liked a particular artist, Miro in this case.

Most BF posters would give their left nut for that frame.
When is the build happening?

I should receive the frame this week so I expect I'll get the build complete by next weekend. I'm moving my 2003 Record group over from my Orca.

some of the best things are subtle and those in the know will appreciate the frame.
What are you, a peacock?

Nah, no peacock here. But one of the attractions to the Pegoretti frames is the Dario's creative paint schemes. Strangly, this is probably one or the more unique Pegoretti frames that I've seen.

Looks fantastic. I love orange and I love simple paint jobs.

Besides, I think that if you didn't specify anything other than a base colour you shouldn't be eligible for a refund!

So you say it looks great, and that you were pretty vague about what you asked for... I wouldn't dream of asking for a refund. You do know that if you use this frame properly, you'll be sweating, drooling, maybe even bleeding on it, right? It's going to get nicked and scratched. The frame exists to serve you, not the other way around. Ride it and be happy!

A question to clarify: Did you order a custom paint job, custom geometry, or both? (I'd still say to ride it and be happy!)

Pegoretti and unique are synonyms...
You've waited this long for the frame,
what's keeping ya' from waiting for the funds for a new group-set?
It's not like the frame is a "this years" carbon deprecatory item.

Sit on it.
Ride the Orbea.

Both. I'm guessing I got what I asked for at this point.

The only thing lacking with that frame is a steel fork. Get Dario to make a steel fork in the same color. The bike will then look uniquely elegant.

I've decided to stop b!tch!ng and take delivery on the frame. The paint job is very nice that the decal scheme nicely understated. Plus, it is a custom geometry frame. I'll post pics after the build is finished.

Gotta love the simplicity and reserve shown in the paint. Man o Man do I wish my Cannondale was that understated (not a tube on my bike w/o a very loud decal).

Ditto.
You'd be hard pressed to find any new frame without the brand name printed on BOTH sides of the:
Downtube
Seat tube
Chainstays
Headtube
Fork legs

Less is more.

You'd be a fool to ask for a refund on a custom Pegoretti especially one
so understated as that. In all the outlandish billboard bikes out there
yours will truly stand out.

[heavy sarcasm] You're right, the frame's plain and "pedestrian" appearence lessen it's appeal.
Let me know if you need to sell it for something flashier. For the right price, I could repaint it....[/heavy sarcasm]

To the op, if you were to ask for a refund, what reason would you give? I'm just trying to understand the logic. It's not like you asked for A and got B.

On a personal note, you went custom, you got the frame you wanted. If you do not like the paint job, have it repainted. The frame is still just a frame at the moment so it wouldn't be that expensive to get whatever paint job you would like. Then you'll have the frame and paint job you want.

Alright, alright already! I'm keeping the frame! Sheesh! Can't a guy make a late night mistake every once in a while!

What's wrong with it? It looks amazing! You want to return something someone made just for you because you didn't specify exactly how you wanted it? I don't think you can return it for that.

Besides, the bike will look more complete with some parts. Ad your flair there.
