Tour of Flanders
What an awesome race. One of the best I have seen in a while. Anybody hear who the guy was that slammed into the curb? Rode right into it as if he didn't see it coming. Never did hear who he was or if he was able to continue.

It truly was a fun race to watch, the last 18km really kept you on the edge of your seat.
My 3 year old loved it, my 6 year old couldn't figure out why they were showing guys riding bikes on TV.

It was a good race to watch. It was funny to see pro racers having to walk up hills. And the overhead shots were interesting. The roads were so narrow, to see everyone bunched up so tight, you would think they're pedals would hit. And to see the peloton moving so slowing was odd, those were some wicked short climbs. Boonen was impressive, I'm surprised he didn't tear his bars off the bike.

It's always scary when you see a rider go down and not move......
Hope he heals fast...

these few weeks are the best of the season. i love the giro and vuelta too but the spring classics always feel like you're watching the evolution of cycling history.
i'd love to ride some of those roads some day...

...and the lousy weather at the start played right into all that. Didn't stop the fans any...they love their cycling in Belgium.

I someone has the bandwidth/space I can upload a commercial free version of it. I usually record it on my Windows XP MCE computer and then archive them into iTunes on my mac so I can watch them during the winter trainerfests.

For some partial repeats go to https://www.sporza.be/cm/sporza.be/wi...n%2BVlaanderen. Some have video images included like this one from Angel Gomez' crash https://www.sporza.be/cm/sporza.be/wi...v_valpartijen#
Comments will be in flemish, but if you saw it live, you sure will remember this hot race. It should be possible to view them , even if you do not live in Belgium. Enjoy!

BTW, Gomez broke both his upper leg and his elbow. Terrible...ouch!!! As a flemish cycling addict I must say thank you for watching our great Tour of Flanders. Yes, for once I'm proud to be flemish.

The Belgians know what a proper recovery drink is all about. Nothing beats those Belgian stouts, nothing. I think that is the secret of cycling in Europe, good wine and beer.

Is there a thread on hardest crashes to watch over and over?
Gomez's crash ranks right up there in the hard-to-watch list with Beloki's, and Moletta's in Milan-San Remo last year. I think I'd add in Abdu's Champs header too.

The Belgian national champion kit is seriously badass - at least this year's version.

Seriously.... it looked like he ripped the fork out of the frame along with the wheel. Was that for real or were my eyes deceiving me?

Your eyes are telling you the truth. Both fork arms broke in the middle. His mechanics clearly tightened the QR well as both 1/2 fork arms remained attached to the trashed front wheel. S... happens. Full concentration...trying to keep the wheel from the guy in front... he sees the road assistant waving a yellow flag to mark the danger spot... he swivels around it... Gomez goes straight. A new airline company is born. It still hurts bad.

I've never seen a bike shoot ten feet into the air and off to the side while the rider cartwheels on the same path. Horrific.

Its hard to see in those pictures, but in other fooage I saw of it, there appears to be a pole on the corner. So it wasn't just the curb that he hit, but a pole too. I think that's why it was so spectacular...
