Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Since you're asking the question there's no doubt you're big enough of a weenie to need full sleeves.

For me, short sleeve would do fine though.

Short sleeves with arm warmers. If you don't have arm warmers, ride to the LBS to buy some, then continue your ride in comfort and style.

Then wear your long sleeve and roll the sleeves up if it gets too warm.

you can make (light) arm warmers out of women's leggings. not panty-hose, a bit thicker than that, but not quite leg warmers either (not sure of the "technical" term for them).

just cut off a bit of extra length and there you go. i use some of these as backup knee or arm warmers myself.

You should do over this thread, but as a poll.

Long sleeves, definitely.

Or short sleeves, with a long sleeve base layer.

If the comfort could go either way, the tip goes to long sleeves, as the sun protection afforded to the forearms helps prevent the skin from developing all the freckles and pigmentation they'll eventually accumulate.

Baselayer is key for maintaining that HTFU look, while avoiding hypothermia. This Craft Pro Zero Windstopper® Shirt - Short Sleeve Base Layer is available now at STP for cheap. It has a Windtex layer in it, to block wind chill. I have one in long sleeves, and it really helps out.

Yeah, but you're in SoCal. Longsleeve comes in handy for those <35F days.

I would wear short sleeves and maybe tights...but, I would probably wear shorts. It depends on the sunshine and wind situation.
