I got shot in the arse with a BB gun at 35mph

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Also Shot by BB Gun - Through 5" of Muscle

That does suck - at least it's not permanent - I was shot in the middle of a intersection in Daly City a couple of weeks ago - now the BB is set deep in my leg.

When is this thread going to morph into the "When I ride my bicycle (or any other activity for that matter) I carry a gun" thread like it does on most other forums?

We''ll need a poll to see who carries allready and who does not.

Then we will need a thread like " I carry a Colt 1911 in .45 cal but its too heavy...is there a carbon fiber alternative?"

and "What's the best caliber to carry when riding"?

and Poll: "Revolver or Semi Auto"

just say'n

Yeah, but I think that would go better in A&S than here.

+1. We need less people in Crowdafornia anyhow; let's start with those SOB's.

Just get one of those very real-looking plastic 9mm's and ride with it very visibly packed in the tights. A "Thug Life" embroidery in old english across the shoulders of your jersey wouldn't hurt either.

Edit: Wow. I didn't even read the post two above mine...

You're going to whip out your camera after getting shot in the *** while riding 35mph and still have a usable photo of the LICENSE PLATE?

You're kidding yourself. Really.

Yeah, they'll need a little more information than that. Even if they cross-referenced all registered pickup drivers with all state residents with SAT scores in the lowest 20th percentile, they'd still be left with an enormous pool of potential suspects. Now, if they were working with a description like: "pensive looking fellow, driving a pickup, toting a dog-eared copy of "Being and Time", they'd probably have an easier time finding him.

I moved to a very rural part of Tennessee last year and have a had a few run ins with people from Kentucky (I live on the border). Locals of some towns we ride through think it's funny to drive really close to us or open their doors really fast when they're parked on the side of the road.

This happened to me last week:

As we stopped at a stop sign the car behind us started yelling and cussing at us to get out of the road. They were screaming about how we "can't ride in the roadway". We kept going and I waved them to go by, but instead the got right up to our back tires and started honking and screaming at us. When we turned onto my street the car jammed up next to us, the passenger threw a full cup of beer at me and then sped off. The drove off too fast to get the plate. I was so furious.

I started carrying Police grade Mace/OC spray. You never know if these psychos have a gun so you kind of have to brush off some of this stuff, but I feel better carrying it. (and it works great for the pit bulls that are immune to water bottle squirts)

So... You moved from Southern CA to rural Tennessee?

I moved here for school and close proximity to incredible rock climbing. The city I live in has a pop. of 12,000. Only place to buy anything is WalMart & Kroger. The closest "big" city is Knoxville.

Yes, I realize it wasn't going to be like most places, but I still thought this was the 21st century and its in the USA, but I was wrong. I hate to say it, but many stereotypes and generalizations are true here. I am experiencing it first hand.

I don't miss the smog, horrible traffic and crowds of Southern California, but I certainly miss the diversity and general acceptance of each other.

Oh, I get it. I once moved from N. California to North Carolina for similar reasons and found out that nothing had changed there since 1962. I found a better ratio in UT, but there are pluses and minuses here too. As long as its at least 60/40 pluses for you, you're still on the good side. There are knuckle-draggers (and WalMarts) wherever you go. After being a California-free native Californian for 16 years now, I'll never go back. The place is beautiful, diverse, and accepting, but overpopulation wrecked it. Its so sad.
