boutique bikes and aluminum...
i was curious...are there any boutique makers that work with aluminum? i mean...there's guys like parlee for carbon, guys like sachs for steel, guys like crisp for titanium...not to mention upper tier houses like IF, seven, serotta, guru, vanilla, waterford, etc etc...
seems like there's no love for aluminum...why is that? is it more difficult to work worth? is it considered a "lesser" material?

Eddy Merckx. They are amazing aluminum bikes. Cannondale Caad 9s are cheap and amazing too.

I'm building a Cinelli, Columbus aluminum. Don't know if that counts but the way the tubing is designed and shaped sets it apart from from the generic aluminum Treks,Giants etc...All Cinelli's are still made in Italy which I think is cool. Also, the paint is odd, it is black but there is no clear coat so no gloss finish, it looks nice and the frame as a whole has a "handmade" type look to it. As a bonus Cinelli's are rare in these parts.

I think the OP was referring to an individual/company that would build a custom aluminum frame/bike with specific geometry, tuning, ride characteristics, etc. I'll second that there are many great mass produced aluminum frames, Cannondale being my preference, but the OP wants someone to make an aluminum bike specifically for them. I can't offer any options as I don't know of anyone who custom works aluminum, but I'm sure one can be found.

I have a custom made Orbea, you don't need to go to a small company for a custom Alu bike.
Colnago and Merckx will make custom frames for you too as they still have stock ones in the range.
I'm sure there are many more.
