Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Wow, you must be in Cal or something. Ours (South GA) is like $3.49/$3.69/$3.79. We have a Prius though (40mpg city, 50mpg highway).

I bet it's still cheaper to drive the Prius than to ride my bike considering burning ~800 cals hr. So at least 2 hrs for 40 miles and that's 1600 calories to replace. That's near one day of meals. I don't think I could eat an entire day for less than $3.50, especially with the gas prices driving everything else up!

My Dad thinks W gets a Bum Rap. We don't talk politics.

I hear Dick Cheney gives him high marks too.

In all fairness the high price of oil is inevitable given global economics. Sadly, the US is in a much poorer position to deal with it thanks to the head in the sand energy policies (or rather the total lack thereof) in Washington over the past 8 years. Al Gore's looking pretty good right about now, eh?

Kraft mac n cheese 5 pack - $3
5 cans of Italian style diced tomatoes - $3.75
Calories - 5k
cost for 1600 calories - $2.16

that's my calorie supplement. I'm sure ramen is less, but i'm a high roller

what you're paying for with driving your car is the time you save. Time = Money

It's still quite cheap compared to europe. I was recently living in Denmark and Norway, and the price of gas was around 7.50-9 USD per gallon.

It has been that high for several years now- somehow public transit and strange two-wheeled machines seem to be quite popular.

Congratulations, your gas price is becoming more comparable to the rest of the world?

Well, it's still quite a ways off (you're almost at Canada territory) compared to our good friends across the pond.

Americans should quit bellyaching. Almost 100% of consumer goods are cheapest in the US.

Maybe if idiots would stop buying SUV's and minivans that get 10 mpg we'd wouldn't need to import oil from @holes in the mid east and South America

mmmmm is that a palm tree? Gas is $1.259 per liter here today. Approximately $5.01 USD per US gallon; so you have it CHEAP.

Too bad the car depreciates how many $k/year? And the insurance. Ect... LOVE the analogy though.

You forget, you have to eat anyways whether you're riding or not. Might as well burn those calories.

It doesn't matter how expensive gas gets....we will still buy it.

Duh.

There is no currently viable alternative that will ever truly replace it....

......says the man who make parts for industrial diesel engines.

$3.70ish in the Chicago area BTW.

I'd rather spend $10 on food than $10 on gas. Gas tastes like sh*t and smells like an industrial accident.
