Hammer Recoverite = really good stuff

i did about 75K today with a couple long climbs in the mix. it was really hot and the end of a high volume week. anyway, i ate post ride, rehydrated, etc. but have just been dragging my butt all over this afternoon, feeling totally bonked.
i remembered i had some free samples of different Hammer stuff i got at the ToC so i mixed up a bottle of Recoverite. Within about 5 minutes i felt SO much better it was shocking. Physically and mentally i feel 100% better. i'm going to actually have to go out and buy some of this stuff and start using it after every hard ride.
    anyone else use it?

Hammer products rule! I always use recoverite after long rides, or rides that I come back from feeling like dirt.

Sounds like Hammer Perpetuem, which is what I use. Anyone know about the differences?

Recoverite is rich in protein and glutamine, which are used to rebuild and rejuvenate stressed muscle tissue. Perpetuem is mostly complex carbs, which are used for energy during exercise.

I have a friend who is an insulin-dependent diabetic, and he uses Perpetuem exclusively due to the minimal GI impact - it has little or no sugar.

I use them both and love them. I usually do two scoops of recoverite in 12 ounces of unsweetened vanilla soymilk after a ride, and again about 2 hours later. Then I do another one before bed. The stuff works great.

Where do you guys get your hammer stuff? (anywhere significantly cheaper than the Hammer website?, my lbs's are always out).

btw, Perpetuem is designed for on bike refueling for activities over 3 hours (HEED for under). It has some protein in it and actually a tiny bit of fat which Hammer maintains actually makes it easier to use fat from your body as a fuel source. I use it now but it is a bit chalky for my taste. I prefer HEED and real food.

My LBS suggested mixing the Perpetuem into a paste and using it like gu, followed by plain water. I agree on the chalk taste. I like using Heed and their gel. My LBS usually has them all in stock except for the flavor I like. A google search will bring up lots of online sources.

Hate to spoil your excitement, but it's all in your head. Nothing can work in 5 minutes. Now if you said your felt better is a few hours, that's more realistic. It's probably one of those things where you were dragging from the exertion and a large part of that is mental from the physical fatigue. So you felt better immediately because your thoughts changed
You're just trying to start an argument to show how smart you are.

I love Hammer products. Use them a lot. I love recoverite. I use it between efforts or after a really hard one.

I also use Perpetuem on rides over 50-ish miles. Heed for anything shorter (if anything at all). Hammer gel for everything.

BTW - if you are new to Hammer and want a discount on your first order you can contact a current cusomter and get a referral. The referral will save you some $$ and kicks back a referral credit to the person you use.

I have done this many times for BF members and it has worked out very well. (PM me )

There is something in Hammer products that upsets my stomach...

I think it is their maltodextrin...

I used their products for a couple years and liked them, until I figured out my GI situation....

I would recommend trying them but for some of us they don't work...

    Perpeteum?

That stuff is so freakin nasty....at least the unflavored.

    How do you tolerate it?

I use recoverite as well. Love it.

I switched from HEED to Accelerade. I like the no fake sugar thing, but I just was not feeling fueled from HEED on longer hotter rides. Might give it another shot.

Great posts - I have really been working on my nutrition (on bike and recovery) this year. I have been using Cytomax and Nuun (for longer rides) in my water bottles, Powerbars for more solid food (rides over 3hours), Gu for end of ride energy. I also really like Endurox R4 for recovery, use it pretty religiously.

The cyto, Nuun and Endorox are working well, but I think I am going to try some hammer products since everyone speaks so highly about them. Particularly I think the Gu is too high in simple sugars and I am really wary of using too much of it.

I've been using Endurox, which seems to help with post exercise recovery. What's the price difference between Hammer and Endurox?

I like Endurox a little better myself also... easier for me to get down for some reason.

the last Recoverite I bought I think was like $45 and the Endurox was around $35 for the same serving size.

If this stuff tastes so bad are you sure you're supposed to be eating it?

Maybe you should be rubbing it on your skin or using it in an enema or something?

    Id check the directions.

Like, I dont think chamois cream is ment to be put in coffee.

Does Hammer have anything comparable to Shot Blox? I use Cytomax in my bottles . . . works well for me, don't see a compelling need to switch drinks. I know Hammer has their gels . . . but I'd rather chew on a Shot Blox every half hour or so than gulp in a gooey glob of gunk.
