Carbon Fork/Campy Rims
 

Hey guys, i need some help with my shopping for a carbon fork and a pair Campy rims. Currently using an old Fondriest Al fork, and thinking of a switch to carbon fork to lessen the stiffness, preferably one that is around US$150 or less.

I'm also getting a pair of new rims, using a stock FIR rim with 02 Campy Veloce hubs, pretty banged up now. Looking for something nice and strong, like Campy Vento, and must be faster than what my Veloce can offer. Budget: <US$290

you wont get much for with only 150 bucks. personally, I'm a bit weary of cheap carbon fiber. I think itd be safer for you to keep you 150 bucks and old fork.

as for the campy wheelsets, is there any reason why you have limited yourself to a campy system? why not go for a custom build? its not a whole lot more expensive. you can get decent wheels for $290. You might be able to get an open-pro/record wheelset for a bit more then your budget.

As for wheels the Mavic Cosmos.. umm.. Campy proton.. custom build Veloce or Centaur hubs laced to Open pros.. CXP33's.. Velocity Fusion or deep v..

i'm using full campy parts, so i'm trying to avoid other wheels in fear of incompatibility. Ever heard of Reynolds (not sure how it is spelled) or Look carbon fork? What's your buy on them?

Honestly there are quite a few wheel choices out there even hubs that work with campy hubs, so no compatibility there. For example Mavic, american classic and velomax currently make wheelsets that will work. As for hubs you can choose Torreli, Edco, Campy I know of off-hand. You can even go with shimano hubs, and use Wheel Manuf, American Classic, or mavic 10sp cassettes which work with campy drivetrain.

Now for the fork Reynolds makes a Excellent fork, there pro is a bit lighter and more expensive but is one of the top forks reviewed on road bike review, they don't list hte comp.

I almost bought a reynolds fork for my last bike, look also makes excellent products.

As to the fork...... Strong, light, cheap, pick two.

As for your wheels I'd suggest a Mavic cxp33 or open pro rim and a Centaur (2004 is last year's chorus hub) hub or even a chorus hub which should fit in your budget. Good luck and keep us informed on your decision!

Thanks for the advice, will look around this week. I hear building a wheelset is actually more expensive, that's why my LBS suggested a Vento wheelset. I'm using full Veloce, 9sp.
