What's the dumbest/stupidest thing you've done while in a lactic acid haze

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What's the dumbest/stupidest thing you've done while in a lactic acid haze

Today, while in the intoxicating zone of lactic acid and physical agony, I decided I should try and take a wiz on my bike for the first time on a long decent. It was...messy. =)

lactic acid haze?

intoxicating zone of lactic acid?

Oooo-Kay. As far as I know lactic acid is the stuff that causes the burning pain in your quads when you climb a hill. There's no "haze" or "intoxicating zone".

Are you sure it's lactic acid that gets to your head and not endorphins?

The resale value of your bike just dropped to zero. Did you wake up beside a stranger when it was all over with?

If a lactic acid haze includes a lack of oxygen to the brain...

I almost fell off a trainer during an interval session...

The world was closing in on me and I lost my balance tipping the trainer...

It would have been difficult explaining to my wife what happened while laying on the floor, clipped into my bike attached to a trainer...

Probably continuing to ride my guts out and then attempt to change in the parking lot, remembering that it is NOT recommended that one removes cycling shorts in a public place after I had gotten the waistband down by my knees. Fortunately, no one was looking.

Well, I've just never heard of lactic acid affecting the brain before ... but who knows, maybe it does, and if so, I'd like to see some scientific journal articles about that.

Already things like endorphins, blood sugar levels, and oxygen levels affect the brain while riding ... and now lactic acid too??

Elevated levels of lactic acid can be accompanied by oxygen debt. I have experienced oxygen debt pretty badly at times, but the worst I've ever done was to ride off the side of the road.

The pros do it.

Evidently the lactic acid impared Pablo's judgement to cause him to try it.
