Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Trek 1500 Red

Hey guys,

I just purchased a new road bike off craigslist earlier this evening.

What do you guys think?

I am very new to road cycling and I paid 225 for it. Did I get a decent deal or did I get ripped?

I don't know what year it is but it is an aluminum frame,Sakae handlebar, with look pedals and s600 components.(No idea what these are valued at)

It's kind of old but looks to be in decent shape. I looked at it too, but it's way too small for me. Craigslist link

As long as it has no major frame issues you did ok...as long as you ride it and don't let it sit around in the garage.

Once you get hooked, you will soon be shopping for a brand new bike.

One last thing, when you do begin shopping for the new bike, do a search on the forums before asking about Bikes Direct.

It's a solid ride to get started on. Make sure it fits well, because if it doesn't, then you'll have to keep looking (like it or not). The price is about right - not a bargain, but not bad either.

I would have snagged it for 200 after haggling.

Sweet ride though.

I tried to go 200 but he was pretty firm with his 250 lol.

But yeah, it fits me pretty well. I am about 5'6.

I do have a question though. This is my first road bike so what kind of clipper shoes should i be looking at?

Do i have to install some adapter to the pedal before I can use road shoes?

Thanks,
Jon
