Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Way down from last year because the training I am doing requires less miles and more intensity...

1820 'miles' road/trainer/rollers (lets not go there)...

1,831 and...just crossed the 150,000 feet climbed mark. More happy about the latter than pure distance.

350mi

YAY for cracking my heal earlier this year! Hopefully I'll be able to catch up a bit. I have little to nothing to do over the summer starting on Saturday.

600-ish. It's been a long winter and, as we all know, trainer miles don't count.

If you want to win bragging rights, mileage matters.

If you want to improve your fitness, time and intensity matter.

feel free to start a thread for "time spent in the saddle in 2008," or "intensity level for 2008" - this is the distance thread.

racer-types may not like it, but there are some of us who value the long-distance ride, no matter the pace.

for randonneurs, it's all about finishing, not finishing fast. i did 300km in 13.5 hours on saturday, and i'm very happy with it. plenty of "intesity" for me!

I'm at 2,086. Not as many as I would like but I have been worrying more about intensity. Plus, being a first time home owner is taking a lot of my spare time.

I didn't count trainer time (not because i don't believe in it, but because my computer is on my front wheel).

So as of April 1st - 656 road miles. Almost half of my entire last season in one month....pretty big improvement for me.

my other, more subtle, point was that long distance and intensity aren't mutually exclusive, although this is oft-missed here in the roadie forum.
