Current Dura Ace brifters: Are either or both the same for double and triple?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Current Dura Ace brifters: Are either or both the same for double and triple?

Simple question. When changing between a double setup and a triple setup, can either (or both) of the Dura Ace brifters be carried over? In other words, are one or both of the brifters the same between the two setups?

Also, if you find the answer anywhere online, could you link to it, please?

Thanks in advance!

I'm not going to look it up and give you a link but I can tell you that the left STI shifter is different between double and triple. Look in any catalog or web site and you will see there are two different part numbers for the double versus the triple. The right STI shifter will be the same for both options. IF you change to a triple from a double, you will also need to change the dreailleurs as well if you want optimum performance.

If you are buying it piece - meal... then by the triple brifters because they will work with both. they do on mine with a double crank and derailleur

Thanks.

Couldn't find a definitive answer online. The sites I found showed two different part numbers but they were all for BOTH brifters. Conceivably, that could mean one, both, or neither is the same.

I'd assume since the Left shifts the FD (two clicks double, three clicks triple, with trim in between) they will be different. Right still shifts 10 cogs, so they should be the same but probably have a different model # stamped on it.

The left on my double setup acts like it only has three positions -- big ring, little ring, and a not-so-helpful trim in between. (It goes too far in both cases and actually causes rubbing -- ALMOST shifting.) Maybe I have a triple brifter and didn't know it.

As for the right -- I can more readily see that as a part that fits both, even though the rear derailleurs would be different.

We have an answer!

The right hand brifter is the same for double or triple. The left hand brifter is different. Part numbers differ for the lever assembly (whole thing), name plate (the triple says, "triple"), the bracket (main mechanism).

Makes sense. Now I've got to figure out which left hand brifter I actually have.
