Hey SF Riders....
I was having my morning cup of coffee and watching Good Morning America (hey, you can only Sportscenter so many times in a row) and they had this promo. for Golden Gate National Recreation Area. They showed a couple of roadies on what looked to be some of the best and most scenic roads I've seen this side of Tuscany.
Anyway, I was just wondering if it was as good as it looks, and if so- is it worth taking a few days off for some vacation riding? Your thoughts?
Thanks y'all........

Definitely worth a trip to ride Bay Area roads. Let us know in the Nor Cal sub-forum when you're coming and maybe we can take you on a few choice routes.

Just be ready for the hills (what you from Illinois would call mountains). The San Francisco Bay Peninsula/Santa Cruz Mountains has some of the best riding I have ever encountered.

I've biked in Tuscany and I think the hills overlooking the Pacific Ocean near San Francisco are more scenic than Tuscany. You don't get the pretty hilltop castles, though.

Great riding. You can pretty much ride year round and with plenty of hills that means plenty of views.
Here's some of a five hour ride from my house in S.F.
Enjoy
Sausalito (The first town North of the GGB. It's a big tourist spot)
Mt. Tam (2,500ft above sea level but around a 3,000ft climb)
Ridgecrest on the north side of Mt. Tam (Overlooking Stinson Beach and Bolinas Lagoon). I notice that road is often used in car commericals. It's very scenic but it can get chilly with the fog in the summer.
Alpine Lake (Marin water shed) heading for Fairfax

Some of the best anywhere. Marin, north all the way up to Russian River is outstanding and Napa is great too. The Peninsula ain't bad either.

Don't overlook the east bay -- early mornings up Pinehurst onto Grizzly Peak/Skyline gives you the bay, 2 bridges, SF in the distance and the pacific, then turn a corner and you're staring at Mt Diablo (3800ft), which is another of the great climbs round these parts.
