Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bontrager Race X Lite Tires in the Wet?

Does anyone have experience with these on a wet road? I would otherwise get Conti 4-Seasons but my LBS only has these and I like to give them the business when I can. This would be in a 700x25c. I'm not expecting miracles but I would like a puncture resistant tire that handle rain better than a Gatorskin or Mich Carbon.

Thanks, Steven.

I thought puncture resistance was quite poor. Cont's and Pro 2's were much better.

I found cornering to be fine, but climbing on damp roads, straight ahead, they would slip too much for my liking. Switched out to my old tried and true Pro Races, and have been smiling ever since.

Have had no problems in the wet with the x lite tires, on dry pavement I think they are great, roll nice, good grip, and durable. I've only ridden them in the wet a few times, once in a very heavy rain, they were fine, until I tired crossing wet railroad tracks at a 45 degree angle......dumb.

They came with my Madone and I rode them until they were worn out. They ride all right in the wet. But I prefer Michelin Pro Race 2's as my all around tire of choice. The Bontrager race x lite tires seem to wear out quickly. I guess it shouldn't suprise me. They are a uni-tread compound racing tire. PR2's probably last longer because of the duel tread compound.

I totally agree. I've given up on the Bonti tires, I've torn the side wall on those hitting a pebble. They have flatted more times then any other tire I've ever tried.

Thanks for the replies. I went ahead and ordered the Conti 4 seasons. These are replacing some Conti's that I have been happy with so hopefully all will be good. Just have to let the LBS know that they need to stock the stuff I want.

Steven.
