Firecrackers!?
On the last few km of my Wednesday night ride with a couple of friends a police officer pulls in front of us and turns on his lights indicating for us to stop. I check behind me to make sure everyone is OK and slow to a stop. Confused (as we were all riding in the shoulder in a controlled manner etc.), I asked what was wrong. The officer replied "Don't worry I caught the guys in the truck that threw the firecracker at you guys ". Not only did the jerks miss us badly enough that no one noticed, they were busted by the police! I'm not sure how to feel, I'm used to the honks and the occasional comment, but firecrackers?

Doesn't surprise me. We are hated by many. I had some punk ***** kids pull out in front of my group at the bottom of a fast hill and just sit there (laughing their butts off) and pull away at the last minute. We're lucky we didn't all crash.

I know this is so immature and typically a 180 degrees from my usual position but I've seriously been thinking about taking up fighting, i have friends that are serious brazilian ju jitsu guys and one of them offered to get me started training. He said not only would I be able to throw down with the next jack ass who puts me in harms way but it will greatly help my overall strength and endurance.

you should train in the road shoes too. Those are way too slippery to throw any weight into a punch with.

I haven't had anything thrown at me for some time. I just get the hoot 'n' holler crowd to which I restrain myself from giving the finger and just give a wave.

ass kicking tip: take off your shoes and use them as weapons. swinging a carbon sole with a metal cleat can cause serious injury. nothing scares a motorist like a cyclist that can chase them down. suddenly they realize they are in for something. if u really want to mess with them follow them to home or work, then give the evil stare....

Take heart...soon gas will be so expensive that the necks won't be able to afford it any longer. Then they will be off the road.

They might be riding along beside us. I can see it now, some overweight dude with beer in his water bottle cage smoking a cigarette while riding and eating a cheeseburger.

I'd love to see a spandex-clad roadie pull some overweight hick out of his truck and proceed to kick his ass!

It's only going to get worse. Bad parenting. My 16 year old daughter was riding a couple days ago, car full of kids goes by and a kid throws a can of pop at her. Hits her or her bike, she isn't sure, she just remembers a thud and getting wet. Then, about 5 minutes farther up the road, another car pulls up beside her and the passenger yells BANG. We live in sports town USA. No gangs, higher incomes than not. Just more and more spoiled kids on the road with less and less parenting.

Unfortunately for the three young men in the car there was a long line to get through a security check point to get on main post and I caught up with them. I pulled next to them and thumped the passenger window upon which one of the young men let the window down and started to say something "smart". Before he could finish the driver said "S..T, its the Command Sergeant Major!" to which I replied, "Thats right and once we a through the CP we are all going to stop and have a discussion which is going to include both the Military Police and your chain of command."
I won't bore everyone with the details, but I am sure those of you who have been in the military, especially combat arms, are familiar with the phrase "Game On!" And as a said justice was swift!
