Ridley Scandium
anyone ride this bike? from what little i've found via google, it seems that this is a pretty stiff frame with a high bottom bracket. apparently, a few of these were in use last year at the paris roubaix.
thinking of buying one for a race only bike.

I believe ridley is the bike that robbie mcewen rides...but robbie rides a carbon road machine. I ride a scandium road bike by Rock Lobster and I really like the ride. Rock Lobster builds many a cross bike with scandium.

I'm 6'6" and ride a Ridley Excalibur. Great bike. Good deal on it at Competitive Cyclist right now.
Ridley's bread and butter for years has been cyclocross, so they know how to make sturdy bikes. Silence Lotto rides their frames in the pro tour.
Never ridden the Scandium, (is it the one with the hydro-formed aluminum tubes?), but my shop recommended it to me if I wasn't ready to jump up to carbon. They generally push Ridley to their bigger riders, and tend to recommend Felt, Giant, Trek, and others to "normal" sized people.

I raced a Ridley, Supercross last season and wasn't a fan. I didn't think the stiffness made up for the poor ride. A friend of mine loves his, so I guess it's a wash. I suggest a long test-ride.

iirc, the ridley scandium isn't hydroformed. it's a traditional round-tubed aluminum frame. i like the fact that it's superstiff- but i hope it's not an overly jarring ride. it's going to be used as my primary race bike- and usually these races are sprints at 40 miles or so, so it might not be terrible if it's a tough ride- but i wouldn't mind a more supple ride.
i'm not the largest guy around at 5-7 and 150 lbs. is there such a thing as too stiff? there's also an older felt f15 available. perhaps that might be more suitable.

Scandium = AL with just a hint of scandium for marketing reasons
They are really just AL frames, no matter what anyone tells you. BTW, I own a "scandium" frame.

yes, scandium is aluminum with a little scandium...somehow the little bit of scandium allows for a 2.5 pound frame.

To be fair, bac has a point. the stuff is kind of misnamed. it should be scandium-aluminum or something. Really pure Scandium sells for about $2400/gram. I can't afford a real Scandium frame.

thanks for the replies guys- i'm looking at the ridley scandium- hard. does anyone think 800 is too much for an 07 frameset? the other option is a significantly cheaper 2003 felt f15 at half of what the ridley costs- also aluminum with a little scandium in the mix
that extra dosh saved by buuying the felt would be well spent on starting up the build.
