Vittoria vs Michelin

I have just discovered that Vittoria Rubino Pro clinchers are better than Michelin Pro2 Race clinchers. They rate their tires between 100 and 145 psi, and they appear to mean it. I pumped the Michelins up to 120 psi when I had them on my bike, but they have given up the ghost after 3,500 kms. The new Vittorias I just put on my bike are hardened the FU to 130 psi. The difference is amazing--I'm rolling faster, yet they do not feel harsh at all.

The Vittorias also cost me only $20 at Probikekit, while the Michelins appear to be on for about $30. Which is the piece of resistance, or the coup of grace. The Italians win over the French in this particular battle.

I prefer Vittorias over Michelins as well. The Vittorias are easier to mount on my rims (Campy Vento) and the sidewalls are much more durable. My Michelins always seemed to die prematurely due to sidewall cuts.

I had slashes both in the sidewalls and in the tread of the Michelins. I started to get flats. A lot.

I have an Italian bike with Italian componentry, and I am now pledging my allegiance to Italian rubber (made in Thailand, but nevermind--the bike and the componentry are 100% Italian). At some point I am going to have to starting buying Italian jerseys. And then shoes. And then, and then, by god...I will go to Italy and find me an Italian woman.

i'm a rubino pro fan user too. they feel every bit as fast as PR2's and are stickier as well. open corsa'a wear too fast and i always felt like PR2's were too hard and not confidence inspiring at all in sketchy corners.
i've yet to try PR3's, but i do have some Torelli's coming that i'm hoping i'll like.

Maybe you guys should write reviews for them on RBR. There are exactly 0 for those tires right now. The Michelin Race 2's have lots of reviews.

I've got about 200 miles on my Rubino Pros. Switched over from mismatched Michelins (not PR2s) based on the wintertime deal of $18 per tire at PBK. I thought my Michelins were fine, so are these. I'm happy with the tires and the price.

Where's the psi and rolling resistance argument? I would have expected that by now.

Anyway, better is a relative term. People don't buy PR2s for long life and flat protection. They buy it for low rolling resistance to win races.

I also insist that my rims have rubino pro's, no exceptions. My Giant came with michelins, I rode one ride on them and went out and got my faithful rubinos...what piece of mind while cornering at 35!

+1 for Vittoria.

-1 for Mich... The only thing they were Pro at, for me, was flatting and costing me a fortune in tubes and patches.

Even the some of the high-end 'racing' Vittorias -- which have more than double the TPI of the Rubino range -- roll slower than the Pro Rces

Michelin Pro Race 2s are a great combination of speed and reasonable wear -- they roll almost as fast as the high-end Vittorias and Velofexes, etc, but wear heaps better,

I'm a 185 pound masher, and 120psi in the rear and 110 in the front is more than enough for me

I've been riding Vittoria tires for a while now and really like them, however the Rubino's were the least of my favorites out of them (found them not as supple as I like). I've got a set of Revolution KXS's on now and they roll/handle great (tread side is much better than the slick side on these)... I like them even better than Open Corsa EVO CX's

Rolling speed doesn't matter if you are flatting on every ride.

Tire choice should also depend on your road conditions. Here in New England - the roads are not great or even good - we (or at least I) want/need a little more robust tire.

And I forgot to add..... I have used Pro2's for a few years now. I get generally 3,000 miles out of a set and very rarely flat. I won't say never but it is rare. Then again I don't ride in the gutter and I don't run them at 120+ PSI. So far my Pro3's have been everybit as nice as the 2's and a bit stickier feeling through the turns as well....
