Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

BD is what it is.

They sell generic frames, with accessories that they've chosen, that are assembled in Asia.

Are the accessories all that? Sometimes, although there's the usual marketing double-speak (i.e. calling a bike all Ultegra/DA/etc, when it has FSA cranks, and/or generic brakes).

I have a few products from them. One is a FG bike with Windsor labeling.

Were the wheels out of true? Yes.

Was the saddle worthless? Yes.

Was the stem a joke? Yes.

Was it way over-geared? Yes.

Was it a decent deal? More or less (fortunately I had a saddle/stem/brakes/levers).

As far as my other BD experience: it was a frame. it was fine, even if the RD hanger was bent.

Conclusion: the product is OK, it's Mike's swarmy posts, and the incessant BD threads that I find loathsome.

I bought the one that keeps better time.

The balance was spent by the wife and myself trekking in the high Andes to Machu Picchu, and the family's two weeks at the beach this summer. To each their own.

I just got my Windsor Fens yesterday. Very satisfied across the board. Was a cinch to assemble out of the box and yes it does need a tune up, but I expected that. I've been out of cycling for almost a decade. The Fens wasn't the bike of my dreams. Nothing under $2000 was. So instead of having an unrideable, incomplete, bike sitting around as I assemble the ultimate bike, I decided to get the fens and swap the parts till I have that bike and still be able to ride. I mean, I want to ride now. As is, its a great bike, light and shifts well and looks great. I had no problems with BD, they got it out quickly and everything arrived as promised. For someone looking for a great deal and doesn't require the best of everything, this is an awesome bike.

I bought a Mercier Kilo TT, came just as advertised, I paid a fair price and had great communication from CS. Some of the road bike deals, like the Campy Record bike of a year or so ago, are worth buying and striping for the gruppo. Is BD perfect? No. But I have yet to find a retailer, online or brick and mortar, that is.

Ditto...I bought one a year ago and it's a great, sturdy, and decently lightweight bike. I use it for long hilly rides. Maybe some touring to come.

I bought one (Bottecchia), and like the Fens, it too was a great bargain. There is no need to part it out because it's a fast, light, good handling machine as is. There are a number of posts about it on BF that concur. Maybe change out a few parts, but IMHO the (apparently blingless?) Columbus Zonal frame and Vuelta Pro SL wheels are functionally up to the Record group. The only problem I've had with it is that my youngest son (18) has ditched the Fens (originally bought for him) for the Bottecchia - sob (not SOB):-)
