Biking shorts
I was told by my friend to invest in a pair of riding shorts that are padded to keep my behind from hurting after every ride. So that said what are some good guy shorts that having padding (no gel dont like the feel) that are not crazy priced but still good?

Performance (performancebike.com) makes some good lower-priced shorts. I have the Elite bibs and love them. I also have a pair of Cannondale shorts I got for around $30 at my local shop. There's a prety big difference: The Performance shorts are quite a bit thicker, both in the chamois (pad) and in the legs. This is nice for comfort, but they feel a little bulky sometimes. The Cannondales are thinner with a softer pad, and they feel a little cooler when its hot, thoug not quite as comfortable for long durations in the saddle.
I highly recommend bibs. The feeling of having no waist in your shorts is remarkably freeing as you move from seated to standing and back down. It's hard to go back now that I have a pair. As stupid as they lok, you know we wouldn't wear them if they weren't worth it.

Oh, and I completely agree with the jersey comment that was posted as I wrote out my first post. They can be had cheap- my first jersey and shorts cost me $50 total and made riding a much much better experience.

I might go check out a pair at the local performance bikes shop down the street. I also looked at some jerseys but did not find one I really liked. I purchased one of the performance lose jerseys with a pocket in the rear so I can put my phone their for now but want to get a nicer one at some point.
And I know this is more based on option probably, but do u like gel or padding better?

How about cycling shorts? Bikers ride motorcycles. Cyclists ride bicycles.
That said, Pearl Izumi are great quality shorts. I have a pair that is 10 years old and honestly barely looks worn.

Do NOT, I repeat, DO NOT fall for thinking that the Performance Century Gel shorts are a good idea. They are awful and will rot your soul. Worst shorts ever.
Being said, Performance Ultras are very good for the price when they go on sale.

I hate my Pearl Izumi shorts.
I'm all about Cannondale. Their Domestique shorts rock.
and I have a pair of Giordana's I like.

Obviously, cycling shorts are kind of person specific but like many of the others I went with a pair of pearl izumi's. They're 8 panel with a nice thickness of chamois and I could afford them on a college budget. The last bit is due to the fact that they go on sale all the time at REI. I think the best way to find a pair you like is to go try some on at your local bike shop or sporting goods store.

First of all do bib shorts (they have straps that look like suspenders). WAAAAY more comfortable. I'd recommend a good solid sub $100 pair to start out, but get something decent. Bad shorts will literally hurt you in places you don't want to be hurt.
My vote is for Giordana Silverline Bib shorts.
