I recently got prorace3's in 700x23. I pumped them up but haven't ridden them yet. [shame].
They're a lot skinnier than my corsa cx in 700x23, and I wish they weren't.
In fact, they're skinnier than the prorace2's I have in 700x23 too.

F**K!!!!!! The open corsas took 2 hours to mount onto my reynolds carbon clinchers. That means I'll never be able to get the PR3's on...

the cx's are the best rolling clinchers i've tried. WAY silkier than PR2's.
have yet to try the PR3's, but next up are Torelli Torinos, and i have high hopes.

I voted open corsa. I have half a dozen pr3 sitting there, was going to put some on the mrs bike for her to try out as she got a knick in the sidewall of a set of <200km old pr2.
Still I voted for the vittoria, I know what to expect with them.
I have the pro race 2 service course (the light blue ones with a single fat black strip) and they are not lasting very long at all, but they ride very nice, good grip and smooth over our crap roads.
I think the pr3 will be a bit like the michelins I have on now, just might last a bit longer.

have ridden the cx's for the past two years and I can barely get 1K out of them but boy do they ride nice.
Just bought some PR3's and have ridden them about a month, hope they don't cut as badly because they don't ride as nice. The PR3's are cheaper though

the new pr3 is amazing. it is the stickiest rubber i've ridden on and my banking angles are noticeable better. it rides like good tubulars too. win.

Apples to apples, I went back to Open Corsas.
I rode the PR3 tires on my Williams 50C wheels and am now on OC tires on the same wheels. Both with Mich latex tubes. Ridley Helium as the test bike...
Here's the comparo...
PR3-
HARD to get on the rim. I had to resort to a KoolStop rim jack to get them on. Not confidence inspiring when you think about flatting in the middle of the sticks.
The are small volume tires. The 23s are actually about 21ish and the are low profile as well. They are baloney skin thin too. Way thinner than PR2s. Their profile isn't as round as PR2s or OC tires either.
The ride is good. With 105-110 pounds (that's the max recommended) they roll very well and turn well. The turn in is gradual and they seemed to track well through the corner. No drama.
Overall a good tire. My only concerns were the lack of volume and the difficulty in mounting/dismounting them. Nothing like smashing into a pothole and trashing a carbon wheel because the tire is skinny.
I rode them for @500 miles and had no flats. The rear tire was starting to show SOME wear, but not enough to be concerned with.
OC-
Still hard to get on the carbon hoop, but done with bare hands.
Bigger volume. They measure an honest 23, but they are very round in their profile and have higher sidewalls (profile).
Ride @ 110 is sublime with latex tubes. They ride exactly like a Vitt Corsa CX tub. They roll very well and dampen crap pavement better than the PR3s. I think it has to do with the volume of the tire and the much higher thread count.
Turn in is great. Again, no drama in a corner, no matter what the speed.
They are @ 35 grams heavier than the PR3s, but they gave ME a bit more confidence in using them as everyday tires. Again, this was simply the volume and mounting issues.
I get @ 500-700 miles out of a rear OC before rotating it to the front. The diamond pattern is just starting to wear off.
I've never had cut issues, as there's not a lot of trash on the roads around here.
I've always had luck with Vittoria tires...fwiw!

I was quite apprehensive from the rep the 3's were getting. I've gotten better on keeping the mounted bead in the bottom of the rim during mounting and working what slack in the mounted section of tire I can around the rim to the unmounted section of bead. That seems to help. I do talc the tube.
Ride is fine, I weigh 165, inflate to 110 - 115 rear, 105-100 front. they do look a bit smaller than the Vred Tricomps I'd been using but seem to wear a bit better. About 1100 miles on the set, some flattening in the middle on the rear but no cuts or flats. I can get the PR3's at my LBS, had to order the Vreds so that's a plus.
My dealer recommends the old tubular practice for all kevlar beaded tires, dry mount and fully inflate for a few days on a spare rim. Never done that, though. I imagine you're aware of that suggestion, though.
Sincerely,
Bill

Good tires, but I do want to try the PR3's next, as I loved the 2's a whole lot last year.

It's a tire jack to get tires on. you put the fixed side on the rim, and then the hinged side hooks on to the tire bead. Makes it easy to pop stubborn tires on. And sorry, I just couldn't resist the pun.
