Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I have them. They are light and stiff as advertised, but not worth the $. I wouldn't buy them again and I'm glad I didn't pay full price, but I still ride them nearly every day despite having several other wheels to chose from.

I have:
Alex AT-400 (crappy-ass wheels from my Allez Sport)
A-Class ALX295 (sligly less crappy wheels from my wife's Dolce)
Mavic Ksyrium SL (currently on my wife's Dolce)
Mavic Ksurium ES
Roval Fuse SL (came with my Tarmac)
Reynolds DV-46 (carbon tubulars)

To be fair, the Reynolds are my favoite wheels but I try to only use them for racing.

Thats BS bdcheung. R-sys (is it pronounced arse-is? I'm not sure) wheels are so good the spokes are lighter than air. Thats right. The spoke is floating because it actually lighter than the surrounding air. R-sys wheels make you climb faster because they actually float uphill. Brilliant.

And they are stiffer than ron jeremy in a room full of naked women after eating a bucketful of viagra. If you can come up with a better analogy than that go right ahead. Mavic should use it in their next advertising campaign.

Yes.

The SLs are only moderately slow wheels, while the R-Sys are quite literally the slowest "racing" wheelset available on the market today.

You're missing the point, which is that wheels should not be so fragile as to completely fall apart in a crash. Those spokes? They're projectiles now. And they hurt.

I don't race on them. They seem kind of silly for that.

I would not buy R-Sys wheels. I was at the race at Pace Bend Park (see pics above) when that nasty crash happened and it left quite an impression. Since then I'm not too keen on lightweight wheel's in general. I'm sticking with my slower 17lb bike.

Proof positive that Ksyriums are some of the most overrated, over priced wheels you can buy. I've been saying this for ages. You can build a lighter, equally aerodynamic (not that that is hard) custom wheelset for far less. Why do they have this mystique about them? You can pick up a set of aksiums for $150 for the pair, and be more aero.
Take a look at the inertia tests on roues as well. Climbing wheels? Nope...

a) I didn't pay full price. b) I bought them to replace wheels that were damaged in a car accident, and I needed light wheels for a climbing race. I didn't have much time and the owner of the shop cut me a good deal on his set. Ok, so I did use them for racing that one time, but the weight was more important than the aerodynamics. c) I already said I wouldn't buy them again and they weren't worth the money. But now I have them and I like to ride them. Edit: If I could go back in time and make a different decision I would.

The graph is interesting. Do you have a link for the article?

I wonder, does this change significantly at 30kmh? I don't tend to ride at 50kmh.

I'm sure there is still a difference but is it as much? My understanding is that aero is more important at higher speeds.
