Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

That isn't English. Please re-phrase.

Why ?

So you can answer him with a; "I have never been to Grand Rapids, so I don't know".

You get the uncoveted "Mr Massengil Award".

DOOSH BAG.

From that post, it is unclear whether one needs to have been to the Grand Rapids or not. It is unclear what is being required from the forum and I was interested in the OP's thread as it sounded good.

Nice attitude though and it is well known that every good argument is concluded with "DOOSH BAG" which is both inappropriate (there are younger readers of this forum) and spelled incorrectly. Well played.

Of course it is spelled incorrectly. Duh.

You are such a good role model for our younger readers. Showing them how to be an uptight nit-picker.

If you look at the style of my posts, they are not provocative and are either intended to help the OP or subsequent posters or to develop my own knowledge of the cycling world. I was merely attempting to ascertain what the thread was about in order that I may learn.

Good English (and being meticulous, being able to construct effective arguments, learning etc.) is part of my job and as such becomes impossible to ignore just because I'm typing on an internet forum instead of drafting documents.

I do not purport to be a good role model and apologise for the apparent misunderstanding that has occurred. I should be grateful if you could do the same so we can get back to the original point of the thread.

The intent of this thread, was to ask if anyone in the Grand Rapids Michigan area, if there are any ,"can't miss",(colloquialism),rides.

That definitely doesn't make sense and is not an apology, but fair play to you on the subsequent post.

OP - good luck finding a ride.

I once lived for four years in the Grand Rapids area. Head out to Saugutuck. There is a bike trail all the way up the Lake Michigan coast from Saugutuck to Grand Haven. Maybe Muskegon. The smell of the sassassfras and the sand dunes is amazing.

I'm in G.R and am heading down to the crit tommorrow. Most of the Sunday rides are cancelled as a result of the crit, and because of the holiday. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the locals group up and head out for a ride. I would just keep your ears open while you are down there. There are a lot of nice places to ride in the Grand Rapids area.
