Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I got pwn3d!!!!! :( What frame do I get now?

alright...so, i was all set to buy a 2008 Cervelo R3-SL from a guy. GREAT price. I send the money. He gets cold feet...changes his mind about selling the bike for so cheap. At least he refunds my money back.

The problem is this...

I thought I'd have that Cervelo R3-SL in a week. So I put my 2007 Specialized Roubaix Expert Compact Rival up for sale on ebay. So basically...I have no roadbike unless I yank the ebay listing that has already been bid on. I guess that's supposed to be a no-no.

Here are my option:
1) Be a jerk and yank my ebay listing
2) Buy a new frame

What should I do**********??? If I get a new frame...what should I get? I've considered the Cervelo R3-SL...S-Works Roubaix...Look 595...

I just don't know what to do...

Advice and opinions?

you can cancel the auction and explain to your bidders why you pulled it. ebay will still make you pay for the listing fee. There's nothing 'jerk' about canceling a listing.

leave negative feedback for the R3 seller if it was only because of the final price.
I can understand if you didn't have a confirmed address or having if you wanted it shipped to another address, but only for final price is silly.

Can you do that once it's been bid on?

They look down on yanking it after a bid has been placed, but there really i no recourse on that. (i believe the bidder cant even leave feedback.)
if it is within 12 hours of closing you can not pull it. it wont let you.

yank it ASAP the farther from the ending the less likely the guy will get pissed.
either way, no reasn for you to get shafted here. if the auction hasnt ended then no one is getting the raw end of this deal.

From https://pages.ebay.ca/help/sell/end_early.html

Reasons for ending listings early include:
The item is no longer available for sale.
This is definitely a legitimate reason to cancel the auction, imho.

FYI I put down a few early bids so they get "marked" in the "items I'm bidding on" list. Easier to sort through things I actually want and items I'm just looking at.
Also so that the seller can't change the listing description so broadly that it's no longer an attractive item.
I would never yank it if there's less than 24hrs remaining though.

Just say that there was a death in your family. The all-purpose excuse for everyone on eBay- buyers, sellers, webmasters. Someone tallied the number of eBay-related deaths, and determined that the earth's population is down to around 85,000.

Let the auction play out and go buy a new frame. What this forum needs is another 'which frame do I get' thread What you need is a new bike - c'mon you know you wanna. It would feel so good.

Crap, now I want a new bike.

I was "between bikes" for about four months. I had other lower tier bikes to ride of course, but it made the wait that much more exciting.

Perfect reason to get one of these:
Look 555

You'll soon forget all about Cervelo.

Start another ebay account and bid higher. Either he pays more or you keep the bike. You win!

I think I like this idea best. I either keepy my trusty Roubaix or I get a really good price for it to go towards a new bike!

Thanks everyone!

In the event I sell my bike...the three bikes that I've been looking at are the Look 595, Cervelo R3-SL, and the S-Works Roubaix. Any advice on which bike to get? Should I be considering any other frames in the $2500-$3500 price range?
