Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Mavic CXP22 rims. Any good?

"Mavic black CXP22 rims with shimano hubs 32 spoke with new fsa rim tape.Shimano FH2200 rear 8,9 speed hub and HB2200 ftr hub includes shimano quick release skewers.. Less than 100 miles on them."

The person is asking $50.

I'll be using them to replace the stock wheels on my Jamis Satellite.

Deal or no deal?

I wouldn't. Those rims are ok, but the hubs are ****.

Shimano hubs are fine as are those Mavic rims. They would give you no problems, but would be a fairly weighty wheelset.

I have em on my daily commuter. I have Deore hubs. They work good for me.. I've had no problems at 4000+ km (~2500 miles)

Thats a good deal. They are a durable wheel. Make sure to ask if they are handbuilt or machine built. you might want to have then tensioned and trued for the sake of longevity.

I think that is a fine deal. To the poster who said they are crap hubs...You are out of line. Just because it doesn't have a pretty finish like ultegra or dura ace doesnt mean the hubs can't be serviced to be smooth as butter.

I punish my cxp-22's every time I ride my bike, today included. I weight #185 and when I ride over a pavement defect, I hop the front wheel off the ground and just unweight the rear, leaving it to take the hit. It hasn't died on me yet.

I say it's a deal as those rims alone retail for like $40 each, so the rims alone are worth it, assuming they're as little used as the seller says. Buy them.

I have some wheels with CXP-22's... I think they are pretty heavy, but are supposed to be a tough rim, for whatever that's worth. Personally, I would stick with what you've got, unless you're having problems. Save your money, and make a substantial upgrade when you're ready. "2200" hubs are too low-end for this elitist...
