Campagnolo Record '09!
Whatever happened to that much-anticipated announcement at the end of May? Nothing on Campy's site. Meanwhile Shimano came out with this...

Wow...
That was a tease...
The more I look at that shifter, the more I still like Campy...
It just doesn't have...have...have...what is the word I am looking for...
Maybe too machine like...
No soul...
Not artistic...
Utilitarian...

I believe the word you're looking for is "class".
Lol. Just kidding. Aficionados of Campy will probably never like Shimano and vice versa.
of course, it doesn't really matter, 'cuz SRAM is better than both of them!

I think the word HT is looking for is character. The shifter's design is kind of bland, as if it's afraid to commit to one form or another.
The current Campy controls, on the other hand, have a well defined form factor. It has personality. But that might all go to **** with the '09 group. We'll see.

So far I am of the opinion that the '09 Shimano looks a heck of a lot like SRAM's shifters without the bent leg look.

I've always loved shimano, I have lusted after dura-ace for a couple years and almost bought it from pbk last week for my new caad9 build.... but I decided on centaur instead... might eventually upgrade to chorus or record... I see the new shimano stuff and it turns me off.. i dont like the new chain rings/crank, I dont really like the new shifters, it all looks like it was designed by robots.

I'm pretty much a Campy convert, but that new Dura-Ace looks really, really nice. I'll wait to see how Ultegra looks, though.

Also, note that while shimano's hoods apparently come straight forward, SRAM's bend to the inside, creating a more comfortable position for your wrists:

its like sram designed the downgearing on a friday and when they came back on monday they went right into the sweep upgearing and then finished it at that
And with no FD trim... welcome to the noise!!!!
the sram marketing people must be laughing that people actually would pay more for a system that does less

A little rumor to fuel the fire...
May 25, 2008--First rumors about 2009:
--"Super Record" will return as an 11-speed gruppo. A narrower chain will let the system work with existing wheels. In addition to shifting on an 11-speed cassette, the Ergo levers will look different from current models. Look for limited availability in September, with more stock coming in October.
--Some wheels will be updated with ceramic bearings and tubular rims
--Some new gruppos may be added (the first in several years)
--Electronic shifting continues to be refined, but don't look for it in your bike shop next year.
