Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bell Alchera vs Bell Solar

So I've got a cheap Bell Solar helmet right now and was thinking of getting a Bell Alchera from Performance (now $39.99). Will I be able to tell a difference in ventilation? My head gets pretty warm in my Bell Solar right now....maybe that's why they call it Solar....

I have not ridden with a Solar but can tell you that I have been using an Alchera for the past year and am quite pleased with it...and have never felt overheated in the head. Too bad one can't take a helmet for a test ride...

Thanks for the response datlas. It seems like the Bell Alchera is a popular helmet, especially with the price tag. I think I'll probably pick one up today.

I like my Alchera. The Solar is now the "loaner" helmet for when guests come by.

I've used my Alchera for a couple of years now. Great helmet, fits right, and looks good.

Quite frankly, after you achieve maximum sweatitude on a ride, you won't notice the difference. I've used the Bell Arc for four years, and recently tried the Alchera. The only difference aside from aesthetics is price.

Call me Fred.

I have a bell arc I think it is the same as the solar but the earlier version . I have used it about three years and it is beat. I will be getting a solar to replace it as they all have the same safety rating and for whatever reason it fits me better than the bell race which fits me like a BELL. BTW my arc is narrower and lighter than my race but just doesnt look as cool.
