I used to live on the east coast and I hated the summer because the pollution was constantly giving me headaches making my eyes and lungs burn. Hot summer days were the worst. I gave up and moved to the west coast. No more health problems. No more freezing winters, either.

I just got back from 4 hours out there on the open road and when I got home, both of my arms and legs had this black gritty coating on it with bits of dust, pollen, random debris, oil, and whatever else was on the road and being kicked up by cars as they go by.
I couldn't help but imagine that there I was, inhaling huge mouthfuls of this stuff into my lungs for 4 hours...

Inhaled a couple too, sucking in the all the oxygen I could get on a steep little climb. I think I coughed 'em up the next day. Mmmmmmm.
If all of this is hurting me, well then so be it.

Try heading out VERY early in the morning. I went out today at 6:45 which isn't that early but nevertheless the air really cleared up overnight and it was quite pleasant way to start the day. I'm planning to be out the door at 6 tomorrow.

Black gritty coating in the humid east = blackflies and gnats. Mmmmmm. My dear husband wouldn't even give me a hello hug. Imagine.

I always figured a one way commute in NYC is the equivalent of smoking a pack of cigarettes.
School bus exhaust is the worst.
