Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Cycling Shorts

I am looking for a decent pair of road cycling shorts. I currently have a pair of "PricePoint" 6 panel shorts. However, on rides much longer then 20 miles, They become uncomfortable. I am on a budget, so what would be the next step up in cycling short from what I am currently using?

Thank you,

listen to that man ^^^^^once you go bibs...

Hit up the LBS' for their 2007 closeout deals.

Ex. Descente Prologue Bibs, $47, bought two pair. Also had some Addidas bibs regularly price was $118, on sale for $49.

There are deals to be had if you're willing to look for them.

What is the advantage of bibs instead of shorts?

Bibs just kinda fit better. no waistband to deal with and the feel great on long rides.

I use the bibs from hammer nutrition : https://www.hammernutrition.com/za/HN...YCLING,Cycling

They are a great deal and if you want a referal discount just PM me and you'll get 15% off your first order.

How much is comfort worth to you?

Bibs FTW!
Buy for the long rides

Wear them over a striped shirt and get a beret. You can be a mime!

I have a few pair of Pearl Izumi Quest shorts, $50. They have a great $/comfort ratio.

+1 for bibs and an 8 panel design for longer rides. If you really don't want bibs, I love Peal Izumi Attack shorts, but I still feel the waist band after about 3 hours. If I leave the drawstring loose, I get plumber's butt unless I'm wearing a jersey that's a little too large.

When the question is about stretchy pants and comfort on the bike, bibs are the only answer. Search and you will find many ``best bibs for under $X'' threads.

If you don't have a beer gut, shorts are comfortable too. I also think they feel cooler than bibs which goes a long way on hot days like many of us are experiencing now.

Hehe. Nah, but one guy I ride is pretty big and complains that cycling shorts tend to cut him in two.

Thanks for all your help!! I think I have narrowed it down to (2) shorts..... Sugoi Evolution and Descente Prologue.... Any comments on either of these (2) choices???

Thanks again,

+1. A bargain and available everyday.

I like Descente's and have not tried Sugoi's but here they are good also. Try them on and see if one pad feel better than another.

cycling shorts

For long rides the most comfortable shorts that I use are Performance Ultra. They work for me (140lbs) on long rides (75-100) better than Descente and Assos.

regards, Curt
