Ahh... "who is John Galt".... read a book called Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. It is a good book and worth multiple reads... not to mention it will give you your answer if you read close enough.

biker2011 missed the rhetoric, the irony, and the humor. Oblivious poster trifecta complete.

"John Galt" is a barely-literary Trojan Horse for Ayn Rand's idiotic political philosophy. Sorry to bust anyone's bubble.

You didn't burst anyone's bubble....you just expressed an opinion.....your entitled to your opinion. If you like you can write a book about it....bet it doesn't sell and people have less respect for it than hers...but go for it.

Kris missed it too obviously, but it is not quite a straight political philosophy. Ayn Rand's philosophy is on human life and her beliefs about it (she is an atheist, which is why most people consider her philosophy "idiotic").

If one person gives a rats ass about what you had to say during your life, you'll be ahead of the game. 800,000 a year posthumously, and at least its got to be thought provoking.

(If it counts I am both an atheist and an engineer and I think that her philosophy reeks.)

Just curious. What would be the source for these numbers?
Let's see Ayn Rand has sold 25,000,000 books and continues to sell 800,000 a year. When your post count catches up we'll compare.

And this has .... what? .... to do with road cycling?
Have you all installed a book rack on your bicycles so you can read and ride?

Gee, Machka, I rode 450 miles last week and had a book with me the whole time.
"Post Captain" for those who might want to give an opinion.
The two (cycling & reading) seem pretty compatible, even complimentary.
Not that I have found much well written about cycling, but, again, I'd be happy to hear from the list on good cycling books.

No. <<sigh>> This forum is rather boring this year for some reason.
I'd rather read threads about people going interesting places and doing exciting cycling events and things like that.
Or maybe I'd rather be going interesting places and doing exciting cycling events and things like that.

I spent two weeks in Ithaca, NY with my bike in the mid 1980's. It was awesome riding. You are a lucky guy!

Rand is a mediocre writer and a slightly better philosopher. Then later in life she went insane from her own ego and became a cult leader who said ridiculous things and made outrageous claims. Objectivism is a deeply flawed philosophy, but no less popular for it though.
