following the trend -- wheel decal removal

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

following the trend -- wheel decal removal

So Saturday I was doing some bike work and watching the kids and decided to remove the labels off my my Ksyrium Equipes (one was messed up, decided to do the whole thing). Turned out they were really easy to peel off; if you do it slowly enough, very little residue is left behind. Used some Goo Gone to clean up any glue remnants. The 4 year-old didn't like the look ("how will people know what your wheels are?" he asks), but he was quite good at peeling them off.

Anyway, here are some after shots.

Sweet, that looks amazingly clean.

Now to figure out a way to cleanly remove decals from the frame too... Stealth bike!

Maybe not so much a trend... I mainly did it because one of the labels on the front wheel was pretty messed up. Turned out to be much easier than I thought to get them all off (maybe a 15 minute project).

I guess I am in the minority of actually enjoying wheel decals.

^^I didn't dislike mine per se, but when one was scratched, removal seemed a simple option.

Last set of rims I ordered came in sans decals on all but 1. I don't ever really remove them, but didn't have much of a choice on these last ones.

My god, if a vandal applied the same number of stickers to a mass-transit bus as manufacturers apply to their wheels, he'd be arrested and sent up the river for a very long time. Just kidding... but I usually remove the stickers prior the first ride. I don't mind their look on other bikes... it's just my preference to go with clean wheels-

4-30 years old: As many decals as possible. After 30, only if sponsored.

I did that on my Ksyriums long ago, the yellow really clashes with the titanium colour of my bike.

I just pulled the Shimano stickers off my wheels. I actually watched a video my sister shot of me riding the bike around the parking lot while playing with saddle adjustments.

I saw how goofy the wheels looked while spinning with the huge silver stickers on black wheels. Just looked dumb.
