Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Nashbar and Look compatible pedals -- are they any good.

I have too many bikes, which means many pedals and possible incompatibility with shoes. Are the Look compatible Nashbar and Performance pedals any good?

Thanks

i have a set of the previous version and they were fine, nothing special, worked as expected though. don't expect a look quality pedal at a nashbar price though.

I just got a set of the Nashbar Z11 "Race" pedals and so far (~50-60 miles) so good. I wanted some silver pedals and I use Looks so I figured what the heck? They're smooth, lighter than the actual Looks Nashbar currently has on clearance as well as cheaper.

This is the 1st time I've bought non-Look branded pedals in a long time. The Wed. night criterium (barring rain) will give me more feedback tonight.

I'm of 2 minds about pedals: Mind #1 says spring a few extra bucks and buy the "real" Looks. Mind #2 says pedals get chewed up and if you can save a few $ on a functional equivalent, go for it.

Decided to listen to mind #2. So far, so good.

I'm also a Nashbar pedal guy, although I only have the lowest model in their lineup, the Nashbar Special Road Pedal. They work and I'm happy with them.

the performance "Look" road pedals just didn't last, several pairs developed clicks after a few thousand miles, and the aluminum bodies tended to wear quickly as well. The quality is like the price....low.

My new style Ultegra pedals with the stainless wear pad on top is like new, in the end will cost less than 4 pairs of "cheap" pedals

Sounds to me, since yer gonna be spreading your miles between the many bikes, a less than super durable, the Real Mccoy pedal maybe OK considering budgetary considerations.

Buy the real thing:

After shipping from Nashbar the cost is the same.

The problem is finding low-price pedals that are compatible with the delta cleats.

Yeah, if you want to replace all your pedals at once, you may as well select a new type.

Used Nashbar pedals on my road bike for years, the Look style ones, was very pleased with them. The only reason I changed was because I got a good deal on some Ultegra's a couple years ago. I still use the Nashbar MTB pedals on my mountain bike.

I have been using the Performance "forte" pedals (delta compatible) for about 1 year with no complaints. They might not be quite as durable as the looks, but I think that given the cost they are decent.
