Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Who weighs less than their wife / girlfriend?

Since I started riding, naturally I started losing weight. The other day, my wife informed me that I now weigh less than her. Anybody on the forum weigh less than their wife? If so, what's their take on "the man of the house" weighing less than them? (Mine thinks I need to put some weight back on). Here's an idea, why don't you lose some weight??? <slap!>

I have three rules about this:

He should weigh more than she.

Her butt must be smaller than his.

Her bust must be larger than his.

hmm...try swimming as a cross-training. It's great to keep some substance in the upper body, to keep it from losing tone, that whole "wasting" thing. Multisport is great for balancing the body.

But, yes, many Americans have a culturally skewed idea of what's too skinny. After a year abroad in my mid 20s, my folks were concerned upon my return about being too skinny, even though I was healthy. Of course, now at 41, I'm working to get back down to "fighting weight", and we all chuckle that we were ever concerned about my being too thin.

I dunno...a woman's waist should probably be smaller...but her butt can always be rounder than a man's and be a thing of beauty.

I sadly do. We were both err...overweight. I now exercise MUCH more than she and am loosing weight. She is sedentary and not losing any weight....well she is playing soccer 2 times a week now but that just isn't enough. I love her though and some how she is still quite attractive...I do wish she would get on it though.

Unless you're starting to look sickly thin (you may want to rely on a doctor's opinion on this as opposed to hers), tell her to stop commenting on your weight or you'll start commenting on hers.

You're too thin or she's too fat if this is occurring.

Edit- Or you're a midget. Then it's ok.

Buy a tandem and ride together.

We have a tandem and a soon to be 7 year old. But you are right we need to get out and do more family rides (the boy and I go for weekly group rides).

When I first opened this thread I was picturing a victoria's secret model next to rasmussen.

Now I'm picturing a fat girl next to a cyclist.

Great.

*raises a hand*

I weigh in about 10% less than my wife, but in her defense she had a baby and is/has been working off the weight at her leisure..... Would go for the tandem option, but she said she'd make it a point to slow me down.

So she walks... I ride.

I must say, I'm amazed at races when I see the skinny guy with the wife who is likely double his weight in tow. It's just an observation folks.

Just curious, do your overweight wives try to make you overweight too? Try to feed you lots of fattening food in an effort to get you to be just as overweight as them?

I'm 24yrs old, 6ft tall, and 190lbs. Two years ago, in February of '06, I weighed 210. By August of '06, after doing nothing but cardio workouts 4 days a week and eating 6 meals per day, I dropped to 168. I felt "too thin" because I didn't have a solid muscle base. I hated it.

Sadly I fell off the wagon, get wrapped up in a stressful job as well as the application process for law school, and now I'm back to 190 two years later.

At 168, I weighed almost the exact same as my girlfriend at the time (she was 5'10, about 160).

This time around, I'm focusing on lifting first and foremost, and I'll let cycling take care of the cardio. Protein intake is up, and I'm back to 6 meals per day. I refuse to get "scrawny." It works for some, but I don't care for it. My goal is to be about 175 with ~10% body fat.

Did I mention my wife is 6' 1"? I'm the same height and weigh in at 175. I haven't asked what she weighs, all I know is it's more than me.

I've been getting some of that treatment lately. "If you can't beat 'em have 'em join you"...

It's funny you ask this. My wife always weighed less than me, but a couple years ago she gained some weight and I lost some, and we were about the same weight. She took this as a warning: a woman should NEVER weigh more than her husband! So now I'm heavier than her, but not much more. And she says I'm too skinny.

My gf (girlfriend) weighs roughly 10 lbs (pounds) less than I (me) do (does). We're the same height, and she's perfect proportionally.
