Your Sunday Ride (June 22, 2008)!
NOTE: The date above is incorrect; it should be JUNE 22nd.
Post your Sunday Ride!
Mine was cut short due to the T-Storm (that we all in the NE hoped was a forecasting blunder...), but it was amazing!
Rode the usual Brooklyn to Piermont route via River Road (aka The Climb From Hell, Mini). Had a flat somewhere along the climb, but my pace was good, so I kept going. Tried to change the tube, but the new tube got a pinch flat immediately. A wonderful couple helped me patch it up, to no avail. They had a spare tube, which was installed to much success. Rode the rest of the way with a nice pace of 25 mph, bombing downhills at least at about 40 mph or so.
While at Piermont Bike Connection, I went to buy the Topeak Micro Morph (Aluminum; sorry carbon fans) and a tube, and asked about new bikes. As soon as I mentioned the Trek Madone, an associate laughed in my face, while kindly recommending a Scott CR1 Pro. I was wary before, but convinced after I could all of a sudden climb a 17% grade hill with about 80% less power than before. Down payment next week.
I saw rain, so I decided to cut my ride short and go to Suffern instead of going home via Orangeburg. On the train as I type this. Feelin' good!

First group ride on my new Scott S20 this morning. 35 miles on 95% flat terrain from St. Louis (Chain of Rocks Bridge) to Edwardsville and Granite City Illinois, and back to StL via C.o.R.'s Bridge.
Besides 30 minutes of torrential downpour, it was a pleasant ride at a pleasant pace (17+ mph average).

Group ride and got dropped around mile 35 of 47. MF'ers were attacking left and right. I love it and can't wait to do the same thing next Sunday

left at 6am and rode the 46.93 mile loop I've been riding except I did it backwards... I thought it would lessen the hill climbs, which it did but there are several very long gradual uphill sections you don't notice in the other way but it knocks a couple of mph off in the opposite direction... add in my somewhat tired legs from yesterday and it took 2.55.12 Also, I got about 8 miles out and went to take a drink and found I had forgotten my water bottles on the kitchen counter. Rather than sacrifice the ride (didn't have time to go back and start over) I stopped at a store at the halfway point and picked up some sports drink to make do. It was really nice out... about 65 out when I started and around 10 degrees warmer when I finished... plus, I saw a dinner-plate sized box turtle crossing the road.

When the sun broke (relatively speaking), I was able to get out and tempt the gods of Olympus for about 40 solo miles before I made my way home.
I am such a rain wuss. (yes, I know the mantra here - htfu, maybe next week as I am certain the rain will never stop here in the Midwest this year )

I managed to get up to the N. Georgia Mountains and get 41 miles of climbing in. Our regular Sunday group was planning on going up but at 6AM it was raining pretty good here in town so everyone bailed. I went home, lied in bed for about 30 minutes and said "what the hell.. I 'm going to drive up there and ride.
Well it turned out that the mountains really didn't get any rain so when I got up there (about an hour's drive) it was sunny and the roads were almost completely dry. I headed out to do the "three gap" loop counterclockwise from Turner's corner and really had a great ride. All told I got close to 4000 feet of climbing in and had fun going downhill fast. Agreat end to the week! Here's a picture of the top of Woody gap, the last major climb of the ride. My bike is in the background.

Yes. My friend made that seem like it was the end-all be-all of hill climbs, but it was really really short.
I suppose it burns hard after doing it ten times or so.

Regular Sunday afternoon group ride for me. The stupid 20-somethings who have 1% body fat make it tough on us old guys. I held with them for awhile. I was paying for all the beer and wine I drank last night though. Gotta cut that out if I want to hang with the young ones.

did my first solo, unsupported 100-miler today. I really needed the break as my parents had just been in town for the past 4 days. Nothing special about it. It was mostly flat with views of the flooding (but currently receding) Mississippi River and I averaged 16.4 mph. About 6 hours and 5 minutes of actual riding. it was a good feeling though. really nice to get out for a long ride.

42 miles with the wife. Did hills and heat yesterday. Today was a ride down to the coast on the trail. Felt about 30 degrees cooler down there!

It's astounding, time is fleeting
Madness takes its toll
But listen closely, not for very much longer
I've got to keep control
I remember doing the TIme Warp
Drinking those moments when
The blackness would hit me and the void would be calling
Let's do the time warp again
