Chainlove - great deal on a Ultegra compact crank

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Chainlove - great deal on a Ultegra compact crank

https://www.chainlove.com/

$129.00

Seems a pretty good deal if you're in the market for a compact crank for your Shimano drivetrain...

Just picked one up; I was about to start the same thread. Can't wait to throw this on my CX bike. If anyone needs a 52-39 Ultegra Double 172.5 with a normal amount of wear on the inner ring (never used big ring) PM me.

Yeah, it works just fine. That's my set-up exactly (this crank replaced a triple; rest of group is 9-speed 105).

I am replacing a triple.. I guess I should have been more specific.. I know I will probably need a new F/D.. can I use the same brifters?

BeeDee-

You might also check this out:
https://www.nashbar.com/profile.cfm?c...0Road%20Cranks

I don't know that the '9-speed' chainrings really work any better/different with a 9-speed set up than the ones on the r600/r700...but for the price, I've been very impressed with the 4550 I'm running on my Imola. Hardly feels any different than the r700 on my Giro.

I've still got 'triple' RD's on both bikes. You should be able to make the triple FD work just fine by lowering it. FD's aren't expensive if you do need a change. I've got a compact-specific FSA FD on one bike...and a double on the other. Her 105 brifters should work for both double or triple cranks.

I saw that on back country the other day. Its not an ultegra crank. It is either an R600 or R700 crank which is slightly older then the compact ultegra crank, although is suppose to be about the same quality. (r600 is semi equal to 105 or Ultegra weight and R700 is closer to DA) Not saying its a bad crank or deal, just its not an Ultegra compact crank. I have the r700 and I like it.

As for 9 or 10 speed, this will work with both assuming you have double shifters.

Everything Ive gotten from chainlove (saddle and windbreaker) have gotten to me, but in shipping have had such strange tracking. as soon at they get to mass (Im in NH) from Salt Lake City, where Chain Love is based...they are shipped out because of "adverse weather conditions" to like...chicago. then back again to mass, then to NH.

kind of strange, oh well, everythings made it in the end.

Chainlove.com, Wiskymilita.com and Steepandcheap.com are all the same company, apart of backcountry.com/backcountryoutlet.com. I've ordered fromt WM and SAC many times and have never had that. Since chain love hasn't been around very long (just for a few month) it is the time for severe weather, so I would say its pretty likely they're telling the true.

They funny thing is the tracking shows them making it to mass, and the weather there is fine. It was just odd. even if it happens each time, I can put up with it for the $$ ive saved !!

No you dont.. a triple brifter can be made to work with a double front,, and your FD can be made to work as well..

I dont think you need anything... optimal.. no.. work... yes

see discussion here on the mechanics forum.

It's an R700. I got one last week from them. Called to complain that it wasn't Ultegra, and they said they would send a replacement. They sent another R700.

Oh well, still a pretty good deal.

I'm curious too. That WOULD explain the better price.
