Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Problems with bike.

I have been going through some hard times with my bike. Sitting on flats, bent spoke,I pump it up the reccomended psi and the tubes just pop. Urrggh. . And when I was adjusting the front brake it went out of commission. Just doesnt have any tension and there are too many parts for me to put my hands on as I will probably make the situation worse.

I am taking this bike to the shop for the first time to deal with these problems and any others that they will most likely find. Should of done it when I bought it a week ago.

Anyways, how/where do you guys get information on how to go about these basic adjustments or repairs?
Is there a book or does it just come naturally the longer you ride.

FYI: I do not know anyone who rides bikes at all, or owns any for that matter. Do bike shop people show people how to do some of these things?

Thanks

I tend to use google and youtube to find out how to basic maintenance. Although I do belive that Haynes now make a manual on bike maintenance, and the park tools website does have some useful guides. Google will definitely be your friend, although it does help to have a second bike to use while you've dismantled your existing bike.
