Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

tubular gluing autopsy - please take a look and critique/recommend

the base tape on my tubulars was peeling off above the rim, below the sidewalls in some places. so i thought i'd take off and replace. in the process, it offers the chance to see how well i did my first glue job. please critique/help, and maybe answer the following questions:

- why did the base tape peel? cheap tires? (vittoria rallys)
- did i use too much/too little glue? in some places the tire appeared to only stick to the edges of the rim, other places it also stuck in the center. is this normal?
- it was fairly easy to find a couple places where the tire peeled of the rim easily enough to remove the tire, other places it was more difficult to rip it off. is this normal?
-what's the next step? chemically strip this old glue (see residue of rim tape stuck in places) and start over? use different/same tires? reglue new tire with existing glue left on the rim?

thanks so much!!

keep the old glue on the rim. Looks like you didn't use too much glue the first time since the base tape doesn't look at all like it was fully saturated. Did you remember to brush on glue on the base tape when you first glued it?

The glue in the rims is fine... just glue the tape again and u are ready to go. Just be sure to put enough air in those tubbies.
