Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Squeaky Speedplay Zeros w/6.6 Sidis?!

I'm getting a ton of squeak from my Speedplay Zeros and Sidi 6.6 shoes (OK, I'm 90% sure that I've got the location correct). It's coming from the pedal twisting on the pedal body. The cleats are on tight. Real tight. I've tried dry lubing the interface points, but it's not the answer. What's up?! Anyone experience this? Better yet, anyone successfully resolve it?!

Yeah, grease is better than lube for this kind of thing.

I have the exact same problem. I have heavily greased before every ride. It does minimize the noise but does not remove it totally. I am looking to diagnose the problem as well

I'm not an expert on Zeros, but for the X series, (and I think its also true for Zeros) the cleats are not supposed to be on real tight. Tightening them too much causes the cleat mechanism to bind.

This is why Speedplay ships the cleat screws with locktite on them, so that you can get the cleat snug, without cranking them down.

use wax or chain dry-lube on your cleat unit. Alternatively, you may want to consider replacing the cleats. In my experience, the cleats are finicky and last 2 seasons at most.
