Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Oh boy..
shorts. A lot of us started on Performance shorts.
https://www.performancebike.com/shop/...tegory_ID=1120

If those work for you great. As I started to do longer distance I need something different. At that point you literally have dozens of choices.

Some will work for you and some won't.

This is what I like
https://www.boure.com/1100.html

They don't actually have a pad but imitate the way an old fashioned leather chamois worked.

I hate to admit it but I find these more comfortable than my expensive P.I. shorts:

Catch them on a good sale and you can get two pair for a Ben Franklin.

Cons: slightly more expensive, slightly less upper-body ventilation

Pros: more comfortable than shorts

If you accidentally buy shorts, though, they'll be fine. I have some PI Microsensor shorts, they're quite comfy for 2 hour rides.

I like Procyclegear.com for bargains on top quality gear. The downside is they are all in team colors if you're not into that. I bought a pair of bibs there last year and they were top of the line Descente for 40 bucks.
