I don't see anything wrong with that setup. Wheels aren't lightweight wonders but they're fine for training.
Find hills. Ride up them. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Your bike might go faster if you shift it to the big ring.

For one, I don't think OP was all too serious on his usage of the word "awesomer". I think it was tongue-in-cheek.
Anyway, you could get some colored tires. I know Michelin makes quite a few. You could get those crazy looking colored cable housings I've seen on this board.
Good luck with the hunt for greater awesome-ity!

Your crank is not in the OCP mandated horizontal position. That alone will make your bike faster.

If you haven't done it already, having a bike fit at your LBS would probably make riding it, ahem, more awesome.

If you want some cheap, lightweight wheels.. I just got a pair of Xero XR-1's, deep rim and 600/800g weight, aero design. They look great if you take the stickers off.
Best thing about them is undoubtedly the price, though. $300 for the pair from pricepoint.com

The best thing about Xero XR-1s is the fact that they are 200 on ebay...
