Specialized Allez Sport
What do you all think about the specialized allez sport?
I found a good deal on a 06 model. What are the pros and cons of the bike? is it a good bike? Would it be decent to do a few duathlons with, or is it more of a commuter? I can't find much on the bike. Any input would help a lot. Thanks!

I ride a specialized allez triple from this year. I ride in during quick short rides (~50 miles) and this saturday
I will ride it 160 miles across Indiana. I also use it to ride ~12 miles to work everyday. I haven't had any trouble riding them during any type of event.. only been riding 3 months though.. so I don't know much.

price depends on mileage. I'd say $500-600 is about right for it though.
It's a good bike with tiagra/105 that would be ok for a few duathlons. go with full 105 if you plan on doing a lot of them. that would be the 06 allez elite or higher.

I've heard the rims suck, mine have become un-trued a few times.... is it worth it to upgrade the rims? or are they pretty spendy?

I have an 05 Allez Sport. The wheels were bad, so I replaced them. Other than that the bike has been fine. I've raced it. Poorly. But that's not the bike's fault.

That's lower-end for Specialized.
If you are serious at all, I'd look at whatever Roubaix you can afford.
Otherwise, look at the upper-level Allez for better components.
I've upgraded my Allez Elite to Ultegra SL and love it. It is an 05', with Alex 295 wheels that may be a little heavy, but they are slightly aero, bladed spokes, and black. I like them.
Good luck, and GO Specialized!
