Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

A Forum Hall of Famer Makes the Newspaper

A long time road forum regular - someone everyone knows - made the LA Times this morning.

Can you figure out who it is? Here's a hint. In the story, he's quoted as saying he wants a scooter.

EDR?

I'm actually considering purchasing a scooter. While my Focus has a lifetime average of 30mpg, a scooter would free up even more money to be spent on expensive bicycle schwag.

Consider those economics VERY carefully.

I remember wanting a Puch moped back in the day. Very handy in 1979 Los Angeles.

I ride a scooter every day.

In congested city traffic it is the only way. My car is sitting in the parking garage getting all dusty.

i used to have three vintage vespas. came within inches of my life when a pickup jumped the yellow line to race to a turn lane and took me out.
a few weeks later i sold them all.
bicycles are dangerous on the street, scooters are REALLY dangerous, especially here in l.a.
my prized scoot was a 1975 rally 200 i bought from a guy in italy and had shipped over. fastest production vespa ever made, could beat motorcycles off the line (if only for about 15 yards). i still love the smell of two stroke smoke.

I have an 04 yamaha Zuma, had it for 3 years and I love it. I bought it to ride the kids on around the hood. We even ride it through the woods, trails, etc. Fun times!

I have, it will cost me 5-7 bucks week to commute and run errands for gas and 25 bucks a week to operate. With todays gas prices it will be paid for in 10 months. In my commute I'd rather be on a scoot than a bike when it comes to safety.
