Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Another Cassette/Wheel upgrade ?

Didn't want to hijack the other thread.

Next week I am buying the Easton EA90SLX wheelset. I currently have 10 yr old Lemond with the original components including a 42-53 crank with a 12-20 8spd cassette. I want to upgrade the wheels and cassette that is decent enough to switch over to my new bike hopefully later this fall.

Is this something I can do now by simply changing the wheels with the new cassette or is there more to do?

2nd question, I do a lot of hills here in Hollywood and I am in anerobic mode mostly...getting strong yes but the mashing is a bit much...what is the most popular tooth combo these days, I am thinking my 12-20 is a bit low.

Again, I am riding a bike that I don't really want to upgrade too much as I will get another bike soon. Looking for best bang for le buck.

Thanks

edit: shimano 600 components are currently on the bike

12-25 or 12-27 would be a good choice, If the bike is 10 years old you may need new chain rings and chain for when you buy the cassette
