Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

araya tubulars

hello forum,

does anyone have any experience with araya 'aero 1' and 'aero 4' rims. i plan on building a wheelset and intend on using one of these rimsets, but i'm not sure which i'll build up. ....i have the rims already, but i need a bit more info.

i plan on using this wheelset for street use. i ride lightly and easily, ...i won't be pounding the wheels. i will be using the wheelset for shorter and faster rides, ....i'll be playing, not racing. the streets and trails i ride are in good shape, ....though some potholes happen. 20-22 mm tires.
126mm rear spacing, 36 hole front and rear, ....i weigh in at 145 lbs.
the hubs will be superbe pro.

questions:

araya offered both models in anodized and non-anodized finish. is the anodized model stronger or is the 'superhard andozing' merely finishing/asthetics? i have both an aero 1 and aero 4 set with the polished finish, ...i could easily get anodized in either.

both require washers, does the 'aero 1' (or 'aero 4') require special inserts or will any concaved washer work for either rim?

any braking issues with the aero profile?

has anybody ridden either? ....or better both? 'aero 4' looks like it might be stiffer?

i might possibly build the 'aero 4' with a 130 rear spacing? ...might i run into any issues with that?

do the rims hold up well?

anything else i might want to know about these rims?

hopefully, 11.4 checks on this thread, ...i have read archived postings from 11.4 on tubulars, ...great postings and thanks 11.4!

thanks for your time, ...it's appreciated.
